Now that they have Grigorenko along with Hodgson at centre I think they were in a position where they were willing to dump a centre.
- AngryWhiteMale

Hodgson is the defacto 1C and Grigs is the number 2?

Sabres are in it trouble if that's the plan

Cap's 70m.

His term may be long, but 2.5m makes up some 3% of our cap allotment

- AngryWhiteMale

We'll see what the cap's like when the dust settles. Rather leave some roster spots open for Ross, Biggs, etc. in the next couple of years.

Keep tanking, keep drafting high. Burke's finally doing what everybody wanted him to do and now everybody's female doging about us not signing Parise or strip-mining our team for Ryan, Parise, or Luongo.

idk i gave up on burke a long time ago.
- Blindfatkid

Wasn't much he could do so far.

We couldn't sensibly beat the offer for Ott, and Prust must really have wanted to play in MTL because he could probably have gotten a little but more money elsewhere at the same term.

So far I really don't care about free agency with regards to the Leafs. BB must be looking hard at acquiring Ryan.

Also, any of you guys buy the idea that JVR gets flipped for Nash, or would that have happened immediately after if it ever was

Yeah, overpaying for plugs really fills a need; we have enough plugs we can't get rid of right now. Let's sign some more so there's no chance our youth have an opportunity to play anywhere.

Burke sure is taking a lot of heat the last few days for his lack of movement on UFA's.. I've heard and read a lot of nonsense and it is staggering how (frank)ing stupid some media is here (FAN590) and morons like Spector write something completely off basse.

This was a slim year and the few that are worthwhile won't play in Toronto for obvious reasons or their contract demands are so outrageous only an idiot would agree to them. I don't want to be a hockey fan in a world where Suter gets a contract close to 100 million...

That was more or less my thinking. Let's not go nuts overpaying for guys like Hudler. I do like the idea of keeping roster spots open as Kadri will either make it this camp or get traded for failing to do so.

Also, I was pleased with how Ross produced last year, looking forward to him.

Then to top it off Colborne & Ashton should be able to gun for spots.

I just hope BB can dump Connolly and Komisarek somewhere. i like the thought of NYI getting Komi if Visnovsky ends up darting to Europe. Connolly can be dumped but we'd have to pay a 3rd or 4th pick to do so

Yeah not having Roy out there will just devastate them.

That's a team that'll be turning it around in a hurry. And who knows, they may not be done yet.

They are in hard on Ryan.

You'll be singing a different tune once the Oiler wonder boys become UFA's

Seriously though I don't blame Burke for not getting involved in these 10 year long contracts.

Stick up for what? All those heavyweights in the league that are laying waste to all those who oppose them? Fighting is on a major decline, so rule that out. The pests? How many of these guys do we really want on our team? I'll take size and skill and defensive prowess over mouth-pieces and agitators, especially if I'm paying UFA prices for them.

For the bottom 6, Ott would've been a good pickup, but Buffalo paid a pretty steep price for that.

For the top 6, Bobby Ryan would also be a great player to land but the asking price is likely going to be through the roof.

Best is to cultivate our own tough/skilled guys like Ross, Biggs, Ashton, and Devane: cheaper and longer usefulness vs. late 20s gritty guys who's body won't be able to take the abuse for the length of the contract (see Tucker, Armstrong, Malone, etc.).

If that's all it take for Ryan then they have been lying big time about the cost. If that gets it done Ducks are fcked.

Yeah I may have low balled that one but that's a start for the sabres.

They'd probably need to throw a good prospect and a 2nd rounder in as well
