As stated last night, Burke is in conversations with Ducks, Nucks and Preds. Leafs will sign a free agent as well in coming days.

Yeah I may have low balled that one but that's a start for the sabres.

Grabs is 2nd line center, so no.

Stick up for what? All those heavyweights in the league that are laying waste to all those who oppose them? Fighting is on a major decline, so rule that out. The pests? How many of these guys do we really want on our team? I'll take size and skill and defensive prowess over mouth-pieces and agitators, especially if I'm paying UFA prices for them.

For the bottom 6, Ott would've been a good pickup, but Buffalo paid a pretty steep price for that.

For the top 6, Bobby Ryan would also be a great player to land but the asking price is likely going to be through the roof.

Best is to cultivate our own tough/skilled guys like Ross, Biggs, Ashton, and Devane: cheaper and longer usefulness vs. late 20s gritty guys who's body won't be able to take the abuse for the length of the contract (see Tucker, Armstrong, Malone, etc.).

a couple years ago schenn was the only one sticking up for his team and that was disgracful seeing he was 18 at the time. you don't have to be a heavy weight to protect your team but this team as is is gonna get pushed around and not be able to push back

if you think the kids don't need protection you are wrong guys like neil and ott are gonning to run over the kids with the only deterrent being brown. and brown is only in the line for 60 games so there is that to consider. this team was soft as (frank) last year and only got softer.

I'm all for team toughness, I just don't think overpaying for 4th line plugs is the answer. McClement's not a push over either: he'll fight when he has too, and he's not exactly tiny either. Same with guys like Frattin; he's a big boy, so is Ashton: kid was hitting everything in sight and wasn't afraid of anyone, so just because we don't have that intimidating Parros guy, we still have some size in our bottom 6.

And what everyone's seemingly forgetting is that even if we wanted to add some sandpaper through FA, we can't take on anymore bodies until we move out Lombardi or Connolly.

Team tough>>> individual tough. broad street bullies weren't the toughest individually, but they all bought in and took care of each other. that is better than having 1 or 2 goons.

I would LOVE to sign Peter Mueller to a 1 year deal. Kid has size, speed, top end skill, was a former 8th overall pick; there's the risk -- concussion history, some talk of him whining about ice-time or something -- but that to me is a worthwhile use of free agency more so than overpaying for plugs.
