Problem is, if they pul the offer that allows Pitt to lower their offer and in turn get him for cheaper. Not saying that WOULD happen, but it is absolutely a possibility.
- Flyers2821

If Pittsburgh lowers their offer, he simply returns to New Jersey.

Am I missing something here or would an offer sheet not be a long term contract that would prevent him from testing the market?

And who cares about a good trading partner, we would have Shea Weber for the next decade plus.

- Flyers2821

And they'll offer sheet Couts the first chance they get. Great plan.

How could you not be enamored with Bobby Ryan at 5.1 mill?
- Flyers2821

It's not his cap hit, it's the cost. If he costs Couturier or Brayden Schenn, it's not worth it.

And have at least one GM with a hard-on to fire an offer sheet at Couturier or Schenn as soon as they hit RFA status.

Let's say the Flyers miss out on Parise and Suter is their any possibility they go after Weber (offer sheet)? Take all that money and force Nashville to match. Any chance of that happening?
- stveshdy

The Flyers have had a good relationship with Nashville and Poile for a while now, so I'd be surprised if they'd want to rock that boat.

You never know if they'd like to cultivate that relationship even further before next July 1st.

thought it was expensive, but F that. they can have Bourdon, Redd, and 2 first rd picks.
Pretty sure we would lose our next 4 first round picks or something like that

Why bother? With the way this is going Weber is basically ensured to test the market. And offer sheeting a Nashville player would ruin our relationship with a good trading partner.
- hereticpride

Just throwing out options. I would offer him. Locking Weber up won't be an issue for the Flyers as they would pay him market value. I don't think it will happen bc were getting Suter and Parise. Lol

Agreed, offer sheets (frank) you royal as a GM. Places a black mark that is not needed, Homer gets players by staying away from the shady offer heet buisness

I was just wonder if that idea would even be considered. Doesn't matter Suter is coming to Philly.

And probably have a difficult time dealing with at least a few other GM's across the NHL for being an asshat and offer sheeting the prime RFA of a guy who Holmgren has a good professional and personal relationship with.

Saying "Who cares, we'd have Weber" is just short sighted and stupid. And just suppose that Nashville matches. Then you gain (frank)all and turn a friend into an enemy.

Again. Weber is going to test the market the way this is going. No need to give up 4 1st's for him. We have a very talented young team and we'll have Kimmo's money off the books. If that isn't enough to convince him do we really want him anyway?

Mark my words tho. He will test the market. These trade scenarios should stop. Let alone an offer sheet.

And if by chance Poile is having a hard time getting Weber to re-sign, he'd hope for a long term RFA offer that he could match and keep Shea locked up.

Keep it simple. Sign Suter this year and then Timo's contract is up next year and then sign Weber. Wouldn't that be Sweeeet!

A lot will depend on the next CBA. If there's a limit on length of deal or some kind of Larry Bird rule, we could see the advent of the sign and trade in the NHL

Possibly. I just think this urge people have to sell the farm for him is completely out of hand. Even if a team trades for him he has zero reason not to test the market at this point. I don't care that we're the Flyers and he'd want to play here. He's gonna want to talk to other teams if they're offering these rediculous deals.

I agree. The Flyers are still in the mix. You don't throw out big time offers an just get pushed to the side. These two players have to consider playing here.

He's one of the few guys I'd pay a lot for, but even then, I hesitate.

I'm perfectly content with letting this team grow together.
