I know you read the article about comparing Suter and Carle but I think Suter is the better player and its not even close imo.

Suter is a better player. But there's no way it's not even close. It is close. The only area where Suter is significantly better is on the PP. All other areas they're comparable. I'd give Suter the edge defensively. But not by a lot.

And I know one thing for sure. Suter isn't a player that you should be signing to a 10 or 12 year deal for 80-100M. That's insane.

Here's a comparable player to Suter and his contract.

ok someone please explain to me ........hypothetically speaking, if signing bonuses don't count against the cap, what stops a team from offering, say, 6 million a yr with 10 million in signing bonuses per year totally blowing teams out of the water?

If Jarg bolts, would Hudler be attractive to anyone, also if Carle leaves or is priced out of our range I look to Carlo Colaiacovo for a short deal maybe

Additional teams being told they're out of Ryan Suter running. Carolina Hurricanes were told a short while ago.

Dreger says Carolina OUT of Suter sweeps. They whiffed on both major FA's.

Signing bonuses absolutely count against the Cap. All a signing bonus is, is money up front. Say if a player signs a deal that calls for 10M in salary for the first year with an 8M signing bonus. All that means is that the player get's 8M of the 10M paid upfront. Not in addition to the 10M.

Let Parise sign with Pittsburgh. Just as long as the Flyers knock them out in the playoffs again, I'll be content.

Trust me, unfortunately the fallout of not getting Parise or Suter is going to force an overpay of a far lesser player. Stevie Wonder can see it coming from a mile away.

Parise supposedly wants $14 mill upfront.

I keep seeing people mention that the Flyers missed out on other players because of Suter and Parise. Uh, what? How could we possibly know what players they did and didn't offer contracts? Just because a player signs with another team doesn't mean that the Flyers didn't try.

For all we know, the offers to Parise and Suter are stories made up by the media. Until someone from the organization confirms that an offer was made, there's no way any of us can know for sure.

- jd342

You are right, no one except the team management knows for sure

What we do know is that some valuable UFAs that probably could have helped the Flyers were signed yesterday by other teams.

Maybe the Flyers management didn't want any of those guys, or maybe the other teams out bid them, no way to know.

It seems to me that with their limited cap space they didn't go after any role players because they have to save room/dollars to try and land Suter/Parise.

It could be wrong, but that is the impression I have.

Isn't that over the maximum salary for this Season?
