ESPN's Adam Schefter expects Andy Reid to remain Eagles head coach "as long as he wants." The dismissal of club president Joe Banner resulted in a power grab by Reid in Philadelphia, and he's now considered perhaps the NFL's most powerful head coach, along with Bill Belichick in New England. Owner Jeffrey Lurie "will not fire him," Schefter wrote. "When the time comes for Reid to go, whenever that is, it will be because he opts to go, not because the Eagles tell him to go."

Yeah definitely Ryan and a bunch of other players would love to play here, no doubt. But more of what I meant was that when the Flyers offer this much money and this many years to a player, their recent track record with trading said players may devalue that level of commitment that a player sees in that kind of offer.

Free Agents such as Suter and Parise, are going to have NTC/NMC. Not a factor for them.

Hopefully an intern deleted Carle's agents # out of Holmgren's cell phone.

I think they need a puck moving defenseman too. Carle may be gone... upgrading to Suter seems like a logical plan to fill a big need. Kimmo most likely being gone after this season also makes Suter a fit.

Going after Parise I understand less, except that personally I love him as a player and would be ecstatic if he were a Flyer. Cap wise and need wise, its harder to rationalize.

I would rather have Carle for 4 or 5 years at 6 million, than Suter for 12 years at 8.33333.

If the FA Flyers signings end up with Leighton and then Carle at 6M, this should be a very interesting board.

There will be a faction that will claim it was a windfall for the Flyers if that's all they do.

Understand.
The 12-13 yr deal is a killer for me too.
I think his eventual cap hit is going to end up closer to 7M though.

I am also over the cup loss and life goes on. And with these clear eyes and heart and based solely on his recent play... we should have signed someone else.

I saw him 2 years ago struggle mightily with his NHL starts, including the playoffs. Since then he's been in the AHL. Players can dominate the AHL and still struggle with the big League. Even when he was playing well, there were gigantic holes in his game. The truth is there were better options to be had rather than going back to Leighton. And with Bryz being a great goalie but maybe a little emotionally unstable, I really don't like this move at all considering if Bryz flakes we are back to Leights as our #1.

This move has one redeeming quality to me. Leighton does know Bryz from the Ducks organization and also has a strong relationship with our goalie coach Reese. If Bryz & Reese are having communication issues. Having a guy who is friendly with both could really help bridge that gap.

If there were gigantic holes in his game, the Flyers wouldn't have signed him to be the backup. I trust the Flyers scouting in that regard. I think far too much is being made of Bryzgalov's emotional stability. He didn't get to where he is by being weak mentally. There were a few players available who were better choices, but they signed with other teams.

they would be wrong, there were some useful role players that they let slip by because they had these big deals on the table.

but nothing is finished yet, let's wait and see.

Considering its that for Suter or pay Carle 6 mil. I'd rather pay the 8.3 mil for Suter

Another thing pissing me off. These huge deals are screwing up the real work that needs to be done. They could have been done already, had cap space in the bank to make an in season move if need be, and let these kids grow as a team.

Sure seems like all the eggs are in the Parise and Suter baskets, as you said lots of solid hockey players found other addresses.

@drosennhl @IMadhavji. Jagr wants to play in Mtl, but other teams say he wants $4 mil for 1 year. May take some time.

Not for 12 years I wouldn't. Both things being equal, say each at 4 years, Ill take Suter. Even then there is no way in hell that any right thinking individual who knows anything about hockey should believe that Suter is 2.3 million dollars better than Carle.

You aren't paying Carle for 12 seasons. Its the YEARS as much as the cap hit. 12 years is too much. And that is UNTRADEABLE cap hit.

I know you read the article about comparing Suter and Carle but I think Suter is the better player and its not even close imo.

I keep seeing people mention that the Flyers missed out on other players because of Suter and Parise. Uh, what? How could we possibly know what players they did and didn't offer contracts? Just because a player signs with another team doesn't mean that the Flyers didn't try.

For all we know, the offers to Parise and Suter are stories made up by the media. Until someone from the organization confirms that an offer was made, there's no way any of us can know for sure.

I'll let you and MJL battle it out, but where does Suter rank league wide. In other words, what D would you rather have?

2 Doughty
3 Chara

If he gets 6 million, the extra money puts another 15mph on his shot, and he becomes a hulking physical presence.
