It is so quiet, not even any Tweets.

I have a feeling something big has been done and just the details are being ironed out.

Works both ways. They'll do whatever it takes to ice the best team. I don't think it's far fetched to think that would be appealing to some players.

And again, there's so much that goes into this stuff, that it's almost pointless to speculate. Even if one player is adamant about not playing here cause of the 3 big trades, that doesn't have any bearing on the next player. Or the one after that.

Bobby Ryan would apparently love to play here.

- jd342

Yeah definitely Ryan and a bunch of other players would love to play here, no doubt. But more of what I meant was that when the Flyers offer this much money and this many years to a player, their recent track record with trading said players may devalue that level of commitment that a player sees in that kind of offer.

Or could deal Jake for a d-man. Maybe Enstrom.
- LordStanley88

They need better defense from the forward corps. And every single deal that has been mentioned does nothing to address that glaring issue.

Sure Parise is a good two-way guy, but you have to weaken the defensive side of the puck to attain him.

This need for the Flyers to make a big splash has hurt them for years and years. I wish, just for once, they would analyze the holes they have, and address them specifically. Not try to sign these big name players to outrageous contracts and create MORE holes, or different holes.

This team is so close. They need glue guys, not cap busting superstars. All day I find myself praying that all this is a ruse by homer to drive up the prices for other teams. And that he sees that what this team needs is some more sandpaper on defense, and a strong big defensive forward who bangs the body and is solid in his own end.

Let these kids grow, stay the course, and they will find they get where they want to be a lot quicker than this meandering shopaholic spend fest everyone seems to want them to go on.

This makes me so angry. We don't need Nash, Suter, Ryan, Parise. (Ill take Doan) The long term, high cap hit contracts required to get them are not what this team should be taking on. I cant say it any clearer.

Supposedly Garrison left money on the table to go play close to home in Vancouver.

I think home and family count for a lot with these guys.

- Marc D

Of course it does, once it gets to a certain amount of money who really cars if I'm making 90 or 100 million in the next 10 years. Either way your going to live like a king.

with that kind of money being thrown around, would you honestly just take top dollar if it meant a slight increase to the other offers?

if I was in their position, assuming the offers were reletively in the same ballpark... id have other things - like team fit, living situation, etc - higher up on the priority list.

you're talking about a decade+ of your life.

- Crimsoninja

ya and i sure a hell wouldn't sign on the dotted line if i had to live in pittsburgh for more than a night.

True. Hard to have a frenzy when the two top players wont announce where they are going to play. I find it hard to believe that these two didnt have some idea of who would offer a deal.

Salaries/cap hits are going up, but so is the upper limit.

$6 million next season is not the same as $6 million one or two seasons ago.

- bradleyc4

That is true. But you still have to look at comparables. And I don't feel that Carle is a 6M player.

I think they need a puck moving defenseman too. Carle may be gone... upgrading to Suter seems like a logical plan to fill a big need. Kimmo most likely being gone after this season also makes Suter a fit.

Going after Parise I understand less, except that personally I love him as a player and would be ecstatic if he were a Flyer. Cap wise and need wise, its harder to rationalize.

ESPN's Adam Schefter expects Andy Reid to remain Eagles head coach "as long as he wants." The dismissal of club president Joe Banner resulted in a power grab by Reid in Philadelphia, and he's now considered perhaps the NFL's most powerful head coach, along with Bill Belichick in New England. Owner Jeffrey Lurie "will not fire him," Schefter wrote. "When the time comes for Reid to go, whenever that is, it will be because he opts to go, not because the Eagles tell him to go."

Absolutely. I'm over the Cup loss. And life moves on.
- MJL

I am also over the cup loss and life goes on. And with these clear eyes and heart and based solely on his recent play... we should have signed someone else.

I saw him 2 years ago struggle mightily with his NHL starts, including the playoffs. Since then he's been in the AHL. Players can dominate the AHL and still struggle with the big League. Even when he was playing well, there were gigantic holes in his game. The truth is there were better options to be had rather than going back to Leighton. And with Bryz being a great goalie but maybe a little emotionally unstable, I really don't like this move at all considering if Bryz flakes we are back to Leights as our #1.

This move has one redeeming quality to me. Leighton does know Bryz from the Ducks organization and also has a strong relationship with our goalie coach Reese. If Bryz & Reese are having communication issues. Having a guy who is friendly with both could really help bridge that gap.

I think Suter is being penalized for playing with Weber. Suter was still playing great hockey when Weber was out of the lineup this year. I would rather have neither Parise, Suter or Carle for the asking price. Homer obviously doesnt agree with us though.
- stveshdy

Same could be said for Carle. But that hasn't stopped people from saying it.
