It's not like there were better options out there.
Gustavsson, C. Mason, even those options weren't your ideal situations. Brodeur was the best goalie to hit the UFA market. Hedberg was arguably the best back-up as well. - _Zippy_
True, the goalie market was very weak this offseason. Still, if the best you can do is get league-average goaltending, is it wise to get the guys who are 39 and 40 and sign them for two years?
To be clear, I'm not claiming to know the answer to that question. There are no easy answers. But it's easy to see the risk and potential consequences of that decision. |

At least Marty will be pushing some of his records even higher. |

The craziest thing is Brodeur missed a season in his prime and half a season when he was young. Right now, he could have like 710 wins. |

Devils have 11 forwards, 6 defensemen, and 2 goalies.
We are now at 50.8 million. So we only need 3.2 to reach the floor.
Fayne will be between 2-2.5 million. Even without ZP, we will reach the floor without signing anyone elsewhere.... |

Didn't Detroit have Hasek and Osgood on the same team. They we're pretty old too.. even if Hasek is a freak of nature ha.
I think we'll be ok. I think it'll be 70/30 Brodeur this year and 60/40 Marty the following. Its hard to imagine either of them playing that long to be honest.. they showed their age at times this past season. I know the kids aren't ready, and 2 years should be the perfect amount of time for them to mature.
This is also good because next season, Zidlicky, Elias, Zajac, Zubrus and Clarkson are ALL UFAs. Now we have 2 less players to worry about going into the offseason next year.
I'd like to see Elias back for 2 years/8mil. Zubrus 2 years/6mil, Zajac 6 years/25mil. We'll see how Zidlicky does this year.. if he's good, the price will be high and we may want to move on with our youth. It'll depend on how good Larsson is too.. and if Salvador is resigned.
Clarkson better have a 50 point season or he's done. Teams will overpay, and he's NOT a piece we need to overpay for. |

No confirmation on this yet, could be wrong, but I'm led to believe the Red Wings are out of the Parise race. |

For one year, I don't mind it. Those 2nd years I don't like. There was really no one skill wise that was better. Montoya, there was the potential to be good. After that, not really anyone. But 2 years from now, let's hope those yound defensmen are ready.
As for the age, I really don't think it will effect moose in his backup role. He was 17-7-2, and when Marty has gone down, he's been more than capable being a solid option for a few consecutive games. |

Good point about all the UFAs. But I don't think we need to worry about Patty or Clarkie hitting the UFA market. Patty is a lifer and Clarkie has already expressed his loyalty to the team, saying he can't imagine playing anywhere else and he wants to spend his career in Jersey. |

I'm more concerned about Zajac than anyone really. I agree Elias and Clarkson will stay, but Zajac is going to get some nice offers.. especially if he has a good year. Hoping for 60-70 points from him this year.. high hopes, we'll see. |

If Parise stays, I'm confident Zajac stays. If Zach leaves, I wouldn't give up on Zajac, but I'd be a little more skeptical. |

There are tons of people who aren't concerned with getting information right and would rather have it go out as fast as possible. Read with a filter on. |
