I have to disagree with that. I cant see the Isles signing a player for 3 yrs to play part time.
I think he's already penciled in on the 3rd pair with his partner yet to be determined.
Just My opinion. Can anyone really know what the Isles have in mind?

The problem is i don't think they do |

why wouldnt Boyes be a possible Replacement for PA.
PA is 29 years old. Boyes is 30. PA was an AHL player his whole career before he joined isles.
How many times did PA score 40 goals in his career.
Boyes at 1mm is very low risk. guy has change to revive his career. We all now JT makes everyone better around him.
hey just curious, How do you think Duchene feels that PA makes more money than him. thats just embarassing. - Spartiarti
I'm not unhappy about the signing but the guy had eight goals last year. Replacing a first/second line player with a guy who had eight goals last year is risky. It may turn out OK if he can regain his form but that's a big IF. You can't bank on him producing 70 points. |

My personal opinion, since I seem to be the lone voice of ardent opposition to this signing: Because Boyes floats, doesn't go to any tough areas, and showed a general lack of effort. I guess maybe it's possible he finds religion and decides he wants to play hockey again. I'll gladly live with the "you were wrong" comments in that case. But if he couldn't find it in himself to perform at a minimum level in a contract year on a team that had high expectations early on, under a much more demanding coach than Cappy, I just find it a little difficult to believe he's going to flip a switch and start putting his body on the line for the Islanders. And he's not like Semin, where he can float around and still pop in 25 goals.
This particular signing is starting to feel a bit familiar with people penciling in an 8-goal scorer onto our top line based on how he played several years ago.

You are not the only one... as I said before if he is going to play in bottom 6 to try and regain what he once was I am fine with it.. but if he is going to take PA's spot I think we have lost our effing minds. |

I have been going back and forth with BD Gallof. Was right on regarding yesterday's signings..."but that was the low hanging fruit"...here are some of the tweets:
BDGallof @BDGallof
to hazard a guess on #isles trade chips for any big deals: 1st rd 2013, Grabner, Donovan or de Haan, Nino or Strome, Nielsen or Bailey
BDGallof @BDGallof
It is my belief that #isles have a standing offer to #ducks for Bobby Ryan - it is considered a serious offer. Problem: so have others.
BDGallof @BDGallof
i'd expect them not to count on it. Lets hope they have contingency plans. #isles will only deal assets/players for young clear upgrades

We can only hope this is why he was signed. To put him in on the first line and assume he is going to put up 35 goals or equal PA's point production is ridiculous. It would be a brainless move no matter how it works out. This team didn't sniff the playoffs with PA's points. Subtracting 40 of his points will not help. |

To me it is not like Boyes had an off YEAR.. he has had an OFf 3 years. he went from 40 goals in 08, to 30 in 09, 14 in 2010, 17 in 2011, and 8 last year. This is who we are expecting to get 60+ points this year? |

Have to believe Semin may end up there too if they throw out a similar deal to him. No one's going to shell out money like that for those guys; rightfully so. |

That is exactly why they need Carkner. Because hes perfect against the divisional opponents, the same opponentsthat have been kicking the islanders teeth in every year. The isles keep missing the playoffs because they can't win divisional games, tie opponents they play the most frequently. They play the western conference and southeast division teams fine. They can't beat Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, the devils or the rangers. - Jethro09
Totally agree with this, maybe we can do the pushing around for once |

I'm I'm the minority on this but i think the love for Haley from everyone is a bit much. He was even being scratched in bridgeport last year at times..
Losing him is not making a difference - Isles316
he was never a healthy scratch in bport...only time he was out was due to injury...gillies was a healthy scratch in bport |

1. Carkner is a nice addition. He can fight.. and he is a 6/7 d-man. This is clearly something we needed.
2. Boyes better not be PA's replacement. He is a non factor to me. They paid him 1 mill for 1 year. Let him try and get back to his old form.. if not.. who cares.
3. Boulton... WTF? Did we not learn anything last year. This is a guy we signed who will take away from a young guy.. just dumb.
4. Haley is a Ranger... very fking annoying... VERY!! He should have been on the Islanders last year instead of about 5 other guys. That said he will drive Torts nuts and never play.
5. Asham... I love him as an Islander but that was about 5 teams ago and he was not that great a hockey player. I could care less.
6. This better not be all we are doing... I am still expecting a TOP pairing D-man and/or a top 6 forward.
misfit Island was Columbus Dee... you are not friggin helping. - niteislander
boulton will not play every night and he is a fourth line player...take out pandolofo and put in boulton..he's not taking ice time from a kid |

Here's my take:
PA Parenteau is 29 years old (or will be, this year). He has 129 NHL points, 120 of which were scored over the last two years, playing with John Tavares. I'm sorry, but this player isn't worth $4M a year, over four seasons. He just isn't, period. Two years at $6M would have been more than plenty for him at this point, especially since he'd not have stayed on line one for more than one season, at most....we simply have too much talent on the right side, be it Okposo or Niederreiter, to have him in that spot. He may turn out to be worth that money in Colorado...or he may not....but he wasn't worth that kind of coin here, no way.
In contrast, at the going rate for NHL players, Boyes is a good signing, at a very good number. In contrast to the speculation about him being the line one right wing, I'm going to go ahead and guess that this is the second line center for your 2012-13 NY Islanders, giving Strome another year to polish his craft. What's the worst that could happen? He could turn out to be cr*p, and get buried on line four, or dumped at the deadline. For a million Wangbucks , I'll take that shot. In a perfect world, it would also be great to sign Kostitsyn to a two year contract, to allow Niederreiter time to get ready for prime time, but someone is going to give Kostitsyn what Parenteau got (at least), and as someone else said, be stuck with four years of Miro Satan.
As for the other signing, Carkner is what he is, and we need that desperately, although he's going to have to have some discipline...like I said, you can't play every game with five defensemen. That said, Visnovsky and Carkner are way more useful than the guys they are replacing, especially since they fill specific roles on the team, unlike Jurcina and Eaton.
I would like to see us trade for a winger who can score a bit, just for the Niederreiter purpose stated above, but other than that, I'm good with this haul, for once. Of course, if Garth also grabs another defenseman who can play, I'd not complain too much about that. - dcb1
Boyes plays RW, he'll be PA's replacement on JT's line. |

Can someone please explain this wolf pack?
And on Boyes: he scored 43 goals in a season... You have to have some talent to do that. Boyes is a sniper, as seen in the shoot out where he shoots rather than dekes which he has success with. As of now JT is more of an elite passer and slightly above average shooter. I like the Boyes signing and if he plays on JT wing I may be willing to bet he scores 30 goals |
