I'll jump back to the positive side for a second and say I like both of the other moves made yesterday, especially signing Carkner, as well as the trade for Visnovsky. Overall, it hasn't been a bad offseason so far. Just the one move I don't like.

thats the positive side???

I love when the real journalists, especially ones as high profile as Dreger, make Ek look like a jackass. Eklund's response was that "he heard different". Oh I'm sorry, is there a better source for information on Hockey Ops than the teams GM?

Yeah, that's right, Seguin lit it up his first year in Boston playing 4th line minutes, to the tune of 22 pts and a minus 4 over 74 games on cup contender. Oh, and BTW, Seguin was not a fourth line player this past year when he scored 67 points. He played on one of the top lines all year. I didn't watch the Flyers all year, but find me a Flyers fan who will tell me that Couturier played fourth line minutes all year before you post him as an example. I bet that's not true.If you think that playing a kid and trying to develop him at the NHL level to the tune of six minutes a game is the right way to go, then I'm glad you're not running the Isles (well, actually you might be since Snow apparently thinks its a good idea too, as Nino crashed and burned to the tune of one goal, one point in 55 games and the second worst plus-minus in the entire league).

He was on 4th line all year and will probably be on 4th line this year too... Flyers fan... 2 of them.

SC: (with Talbot and Rinaldo)
TOI/G
14:08

Nino: (with Reasoner and Pandalfo)
TOI/G
10:07

not only did SC have more minutes/game than nino he had more talent and was CERTAINLY in a better position to be more aggressive knowing he had someone by his side to have his back in case things got testy...nino, well he had reasoner and pandalfo

- LetsGoIsles

Don't forget Wallace... he was on their too.. and that is better then if Nino was on that line with Casey C, or Haley, or Ullstrom, or Rhett, or any other prospect. Having him play with a bunch of washed up bums was a better idea for the team.

And the fact that you're comparing the Isles 4th lines to those of two other isolated players like Seguin and Couturier, who played on cup contenders, is insane. You can't possible expect that Nino would "develop" with anything close to the success that those two kids had in years one and two while playing on the Islanders. The Bruins and Flyers' fourth liners are far superior to those of the Islanders and the proof of that is in the fact that players on those lines play far more minutes than the Isles' putrid fourth line did. The Bruins and Flyers roll four lines. The Isles can't even dream of doing that. Besides, you name two kids. Where were all the other dozens of prospects picked in the same draft and rounds as Seguin and Courturier in their respective drafts? The vast majority of them were either still in junior or in the "A".

The point is, Nino was clearly not an NHL player last year. He was clearly not ready to play in the NHL. One goal and one point in 55 games with the second worst plus/minus in hockey is all the proof anyone needs to see to realize that Nino would have been better off in Portland than on the Islanders last season. Would Nino have had more points playing with better players? Who knows? But the Isles didn't see him as ready for more than 4th line minutes (for whatever that's worth) and had him on the fourth line. Again, he would have been better off in Portland.

Anybody who watched Nino play last year knew he was in over his head. Doesn't matter who his linemates were. He has so much to work on its not even funny. Just look how bad he was skating next to Pandolfo & Reasoner, its not like he stuck out over them and you were saying to yourself "Man, Nino should be on the top line". If he looked out of place with those guys, just think how out of place he would look skating with real talent. Kid has a ton of potential just have to let him develop it in BP

If you're going to give Hudler 4 years $16 million, I'd just as well sign PAP...

That's a positive note...I heard Kasperrko never overplayed the puck when he was a goalie for his HS team...

Are we still like ten million below the cap? Why isn't Garth spending. It makes no sense to me.
