Hey I know it sounds insane. But Quick has come out of nowhere. Until this year, he was considered a stop-gap until Bernier was ready. Now he is being paid like a future hall of famer. All things being equal - i e them playing in front of the same team - over a long period of time they are going to have pretty similar stats, so why not capitalize on his trade value and avoid paying your goalie a stupid amount of money on a roster already loaded with terrible contracts? Look, no one can critisize the Quick contract right now, b/c everything about LA is roses today, but their descision to do the easy thing will cost them in the long run.

Quick did not come out of nowhere, he's been considered a top flight goalie the whole time. The only thing that makes it a discussion is Bernier was too, but Quick has been the better goaltender the whole time.

They got a highly capable back up at 1.2mil, I don't think that time is now at all. Plus they could get a kings ransom for him at the trade deadline when a team like Chicago needs a goalie to get into the playoffs. (I'm aware the Leafs are in a similar position but we have 2 guys who are good enough to be starters in our system).

I just don't see the point in trading good quality assets for something we already have 2 of. If Burke wants to improve in goal then he's going to get a vet. Probably why he fielded an offer to Brodeur, and has been in discussions with Luongo. If those two are not happening, sign Roloson to a 1 year deal.

Or why not trade him now and get full value for him and sign a back up for cheap? Its clear Quick is the #1 guy and he's proven to be one of the best, if not the best goalie in the league, and hes only 26.

He's going to be their #1 for a long time, no point in keeping Bernier behind him, trade him to address other needs and sign Hedberg or something. Thats what i would do anyways.

Difference is Halak was proven, had a good year and a GREAT playoffs, that upped his value big time. Bernier hasnt done that, and wont get the chance to either with Quick there, thats why I dont think he'll get that much of a return.
