I can tell you that yes, without a doubt, Bernier is better than Scrivens. One thing to look for in goalies - as unpredictable as that position is - is pedigree. Bernier has it.
I will also state uncatagorically that Riemer is better than Scrivens. Now, Riemer has proven he can play in the NHL, and he could be a capable goalie and certainly has the potential, in the right situation could be good. THat being said, if I was LA, I would have traded Quick and kept Bernier. Montreal made a similarly ballsy move a few years ago when they kept Price despite Halak having stolen his job in the playoffs. Too bad LA didnt have those balls.
If the Leafs can get Bernier without giving up too much (Kadri or Gardner) I think that is their best move. - Jimmy_T
Did you just say youd rather trade quick and kept bernier you sir are INSANEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE quick here dominated the league and playoffs your crazy haha Anywho i really think burke goes after bernier |

The only 4 options im looking forward to for burke to make a push for in trades is chris stewart, bobby ryan, one of luongo or bernier. Other than that, nothing seems to be available unless burke knows something we all dont know. |

See, this is where punctuation comes into play. I think you meant "drunk' unibrow" which would have a completely different meaning minus the " ' ". - Tee-Dot

I dont know man, it seems doubtful to me that the President and General Manager of the richest team in hockey knows something that you don't.
By the way, I think Burke did a fantstic signing today. Going over the scouting report made me really happy and I think this means the end of Steckel, who is the equivelent of having a player on a baseball roster who cant hit, or field but can run really fast. |

Nope.... Steckel will be our 3rd line center... McClement will be our 3rd... and honestly thats fine.
Steckel wins draws and is good on the PK.... adding in 15 to 20 points isnt that bad either for a guy who plays 7 minutes a game
Carlyle loves having a solid 4th line and a good 3rd shutdown line. I personally want the leaves to grab Taylor Pyatt on a 1 year deal worth 1.5M
MacArthur - McClement - Frattin
Pyatt - Steckel - Brown |

Wouldn't mind taking a gamble on Semin. A one year deal for 4/5 million. Play him with Grabo maybe and see if they click. Someone mentioned Pyatt who i think would be a perfect fit on the 4th line.
Kessel- JVR - Lupul
Semin- Grabo - Kadri
Kuli- McClement-Frattin
Brown-Steckel-Pyatt
Now if Burke can get rid of Mac,Lombardi,Komi and get back anything of even the smallest value (draft picks etc...) we will be slowly progressing.
Taking on Semin would be a risk, but in my opinion its a risk worth taking

Not! Semin is no fit for this team. We have to have a team that goes to bed mean and wakes up meaner. I still think that Burke has something brewing and it may be for another top 6 forward. Lets hope that it's a centre for the first line. Maybe it's time to go fishing in Colorado, where they seem to have 3 top 6 centres. We can afford to send a Kulimen, Kadri and a defenceman(not Gardiner) the other way. I'd even do Kessel, even up, for Stastny. Then we could fill the top 6 with another winger, through trade. Time to buck up Burke, and fill that #1 center hole. |

Honestly on a one year contract I would bite too. He'll get a huge offer in Russia and will laugh at any 1 year deal here though. He's not exactly a winner.
edit: Wait.. that means he should sign here? |

If Semin can't make it work in Washington with Ovechkin, what are the odds he can make it work in Toronto with Grabovski?
Semin is looking for a pay day. Not to redeem himself. |

Too soft he needs a guy like Ovi, Ryan, Nash or Stewart playing on the wing. Or someone like Getzlaf/Malkin in the middle. He needs SIZE to open up the possiblilites of finishing or being able to Cycle. The closest thing would be JVR which means you have Bozie on line 1/1AB/2 between Kessel and Lups again.
Not saying Semin is a bad idea, but just saying the roster you have suggested doesn't make sense if you don't have JVR slotted with him and Grabo which then probably makes a first line over the Bozie line.
What the hell does getting rid of Mac for little value do for the team? He's a fanatasic depth player and playing on the third line with McClement/Steckel with Kuli on the wing would be a nice looking shutdown line with some scoring, or having a 4th line with more grit.
With Frattin in the mix this makes things... complicated. Frattin > Mac eventually but... if the team is that confident in Frattin I can see one of two things happening:
He splits time all over the roster
He's a third liner with Specialty Teams time on PK/PP.
Works for me. And don't forget Kamarov. If you want Semin to play well and without compliant, you keep a good group or Russians (Speaking) on the team.

You can't tell me that, but that doesn't mean it's not the case. Know what I mean? neither has proved anything in a starters position. And if you want to use that then Reimer has proved himself in a small sampling that he is a starter. So why spend assets on a 'maybe'? like I said we tried that already on two promising goaltenders in Toskala & Raycroft. Hindsight is 20/20, but at the time they were both back up ready for a starter position. Just saying, he will probably be good, but save the assets and get a vet, not a maybe.
Bernier never outplayed Quick in the playoffs so that comparison doesn't work. And Quick is arguably the best goalie in the league right now, and if he isn't he's up there with Lunqvist. Bernier? not quite. There is no question who LA is keeping and their 10 year contract proves that.
In the end, you will not get Bernier without giving up something of magnitude, so yes it will cost Gardiner or Kadri +. See what I'm getting at? Is Bernier really worth losing those assets for someone who might be better than what we already have? |
