so if we get Ryan, it would give us an advantage to sign Perry or Getz next year
- Sabres2012CUP

That is a very interesting point
Chance are they will both wanna leave bc the ducks will likely miss the playoffs again this year... and after seeing what's going on w Parise, itd be pretty hard for them to not wanna cash in

I wouldnt say that. Derek Roy isnt going to get you there though (a guy on a 1 year deal who's value is low right now).

It is going to take parts that wont be easy to let go. When you want to trade for an established star, more times than not the excitement of that player coming to your team will be matched with the uneasiness of what you gave up to get him.

Based on potential.

Fact is Roy was a 2nd round draft pick and had a better 1st year than either of those two who were top 10 picks.

With Roy you know what your getting.

Schenn may not ever turn out to be a 2nd line center. 3rd team in as many years.

Couturier possibly. Probably.

True...
But they prob wanna get back in the playoffs ASAP...
ESP since the kings just won the cup
Also...
They want Selane to come back
They'd like to re-sign Getzlaf & Perry I'm sure
Neither of those happen if they start "rebuilding" IMO

So maybe they'd be interested in more established talent?

Bobby Ryan doesnt want to play in ANA. Ducks have to trade him. This drops his value just a little.

Everyone Welcome Paul Hamilton, Captain Obvious. Its Roy+. the + its gotta be Wing. So you have either Stafford, Gerbe or Pommer or an unproven prospect

Roy is a UFA next summer for starters, that lowers his value. He is coming off a pretty unremarkable season, that lowers his value. The other guys looked great in the NHL playoffs (Couturier specifically in shutting down Malkin) and are still on RFA rookie contracts which are a gold standard in the present salary cap landscape.

Not when there are a plethora of suitors for that player like there will be for Ryan. Just wait until the teams that wanted Parise lose out. The value of a Bobby Ryan goes up the second Parise is signed.

i'm just waiting for the Parise and Suter decisions. my guess is the Sabres have offers on one or both. once those are announced, the Sabres move forward with PLAN B if the Parise or Suter offer is rejected.

that's when you'll see things pick up in trade talks.

Couturier is the only one of those 2 that has more potential than Derek Roy had when he was that age.

Schenn is severely over rated, just like his brother.

Except the Ducks need to reach the salary cap floor, and by dishing off Bobby Ryan who eats up $5M of their cap space for rookie contracts, thats not exactly the right way to go about getting there.

The Ducks surely arent in the market for any top FA's available, not exactly sure how the hell they are going to reach the floor.....

Theres a difference between going after Parise who costs just money as opposed to going after Bobby Ryan who will cost your team prospects, picks and multiple roster players which creates holes.

Theres a reason Nash hasnt been dealt yet at the asking price.

It would be nice if one of these teams that need to get to the floor would take him off our hands

Ducks are at 47M committed to next season right now, that does not include Selanne's new contract which will be right around the same 4M he has earned recently. The cap floor is 54.2M. With Selanne signed the Ducks will only have to spend 3M more. It isnt as much of an issue as you are making it out to be.
