... I am really not sure if I can agree with you on this... He played his butt off all year in order to live up to wearing the C... he might not be a prototypical captain who voices his concerns and leads the men into battle but he always has lead by example.

he was our most valuable player last year not only in 5-5, but in power play and PK as well. If we actually had a solid depth roster.. he wouldn't even have to be on PK but he was. I would give him more credit then you are.

- JVince11

I know what he does and I like him as a player. If you read my post above that you would know that I was the only one defending him last year.

That being said, he is a puss. He may lead by example, but he's still a puss.

Part of leading by example is having the ability to inspire others to follow. It's not enough to elevate your own game, but you have to do it in a way that gets others to do it to their own games as well. I still think that is debatable. There was one point in the year I thought he did, but then it seemed to disappear.
- buffalofan19

That also speaks to the quality of individuals that are on the team as well. IF they are not willing to get behind the coach (see Roy and Boyes), then it doesnt matter what the Captain does. Rid yourself of the bad apples, or rid yourself of the coach, that is the answer. If you are going to stick wtih lindy, then everyone else needs to get on the wagon or get dealt. If you want to dump Lindy, then move forward with the talent the way the new coach wants to go...

that is a fair statement... i cannot disagree with you..

he is NOT the prototypical captain by any means..

I think Ehrhoff will wear the C in a few years unless a bigger name is brought in.

Ehrhoff did yell out the commands and details during play.. he did try to motivate others around him.. and he did stand up and fight guys numerous times when they were getting chirpy or pushing with Miller..

I'm pretty sure when Ehrhoff got hurt and missed 15 or so games this year it was in a fight for nudging Miller.. Chicago maybe?

One can lead by example in different ways. Pominville "led" in more of a Nik Lidstrom fashion, which can and has worked before. However, Pominville didn't really "succeed", not yet, anyway. Last season doesn't mean that Pominville can't do that. Part of it could be the fact that it's almost impossible to inspire certain players. I'm not saying that he can't, just that he didn't.

I was one of the few who defended Pommer last year, now everyone loves him for his "two way play". Bullpoop everybody wanted him GONE last summer.

but anyways, I like Pominville but he is a puss.

'nuff said.

- CaptainRivet

There was no defending Pommer last year. No need for it. Everyone loved Pommer last year.

It was 2 years ago and prior everyone was complaining about how Pommer's contract was the worst and most inflated on the team (even compared to Vaneks). I was one of 3 people who stood by Pommer's side, explained 20+ goals and 60+ points gets you 5M +/- .3 and used logical comparisons.

We shouldve let Vanek walk for 4 first round draft picks. Combined with our own first round draft picks, we'd be a pretty damn good team right about now.

I think they wanted Myers to wear the C... but he is just CLEARLY not ready for that.

Foligno, Grigorenko, Girgenson, McNabb, Myers, or Ehrhoff...

Pommer probably doesnt pull the same weight as Lindstrom with the others on the team for some reason...

you are supposed to make mentioning that fast like pulling a band-aid... you just pulled that band-aid slow enough to be compared to torture at Guantanamo Bay.

Letting Vanek walk wouldve been the quick pulling of the band aid.

Allowing Vanek to stay on this terrible contract and provide mediocre play is the slow pulling.

People still complained about his contract last year when he got 52 points, but I understand your point.

Even if those first rounders weren't first overalls everytime, the Sabres would be amazing right about now. Or in an amazing position to succeed.

Injury, for the first time in his NHL career. Concussion too. Took some time to get back after injury. Still fell just short of benchmark 60P

You never know why one moves back to Buffalo, loss of job, sick relative, won the lottery... So I was just hoping the best for you. I know that if I could move back that I would, but my career track isnt exactly a booming business back in the Buff...

Indeed. My company has said they'd be fine with me working remote from there. And that's a good thing because marketing technology consulting is also not an in-demand field back home.
