why would that imply a lockout? The oweners are the ones that are offering that kinda money.
- Homer

But not all of them. There has to be some owners who will realize that they can not compete any longer with the teams that are offering these deals.

Market was set real early for Parise/Suter 12-13 year deals offered at 90M plus. Incredible to hear #NHL teams willing to go there.

Lockout here we come...

- rmiethaner

Neither player is worth it. I'd rather sign Doan and make some trades

So wait, Schultz signed a year Entry level deal in Edmonton. In 2 years is he an RFA, or does he retain UFA status because he already was one?

nobody ever said a player like Richards could buy anyone the Cup. He is good but no longer a game changer

Point being not worth the coin he was paid.Just my opinion

I agree. My point was that these contracts are getting out of control and will probably cause a work stoppage.

Zach Parise's decision will not come until tomorrow. Has narrowed the field to a select group and will decide Monday.

Minny, Detroit, or Pitt I bet.... Pitt wins.

If those are Zacks choices...I would concede him to Minn so we and others in east won't have to deal with him...Going to Pitsburgh would be extremely scary.

On crosbys contract he won't finish it he's had what 2 concussions?

From what I've seen, every year since the first front loaded contract passed the CBA, more and more owners are willing to construct deals like this. The way they are beating the circumvention is through signing bonus, which looks like it started with Buffalo. Luongo, Kovi, Hossa, etc those contracts didnt include bonuses.

If i recall correctly the media reported that Lou was against the contract thrown at Kovi, but the owners wanted it. And now they are financially hurt.

Its an ELC so he would become an RFA. Capgeek has his listed at a 3.775M cap hit, but he signed a contract with a max of $2.85M if he hits his bonuses.

By the way, here is the Crosby contract:

2013-14 -- $12 million

2014-15 -- $12 million

2015-16 -- $12 million

2016-17 -- $10.9 million

2017-18 -- $10.9 million

2018-19 -- $10 million

2019-20 -- $9 million

2020-21 -- $9.6 million

2021-22 -- $9 million

2022-23 -- $3 million

2023-24 -- $3 million

2024-25 -- $3 million

I think Regehr played exactly the way Flames fans told us he would; strong, gritty, mean until about December, then his age and the wear and tear begin to show until he's got nothing left in the tank by the end of the season.

He was one guy that got into trouble because of the injuries our other d-men had. At this point in his career, I just don't think he can handle the minutes anymore. It's too bad, because he's been a warrior for a long time in this league but his body just can't handle it anymore. He dished out some HUGE highlight-type hits in the fall, but disappeared in the Winter.

Unfortunately, it seems he's following in the footsteps of guys like Rivet, Tucker, Peca, etc.; they played so hard for so long, but their bodies just couldn't handle that style anymore. I think he'll be fine as a 5th/6th d-man on this roster and after this year, he'll be gone.

I am confused why sabres would not pay whatever the cost was. With all these 8-10 year contracts. There are less and less great players avail. july 1. So the cost is going to skyrocket. If you want to build hockey heavan and have the sole reason is to win a cup you need great players. The lack of success in the last 4 years would suggest we need great players. Darcy has really never ever put a package together to trade for a great player. Not going to count Briere or Drury neither one was great at the time were traded. Darcy wont go RFA. So free agency is our only option. Does any one want to roll with a ninth place team that has no leadership.

Yea....that makes the Leafs sooo much better than the Sabres...get a clue
- KINGTUFF17

McClement > McCormick, Ellis

Signing doesn't make Leafs better team, but player they signed would have been upgrade for Buffalo.

I love the idea of Regehr. He was a little slower than I thought and not as good a fighter. he hit ok. Dont hate the move. Hoped for more

With how much inflation is in the ufas signed today and how big the trade asking prices are... I would imagine that darcy has to be working the phones...

It seems like a better and smarter deal to trade pieces to only take on a few million in a deal vs adding these inflated contracts...

Parise and doan do not want to play in buffalo.. neither does olli.. we r looking at trades or rfas only

Honestly, for that coin I'd just as soon have us draft someone that then earns that contract with us.
