Even better...
Thomas Drance @ThomasDrance
BREAKING NEWS: As a result of recent developments, Keith Ballard has suddenly become underpaid. - 1970vintage
If AV ever gave him a legitimate chance....
The one thing I love about Ballard is when he uses his speed and rushes the puck up into the offensive zone taking a shot on net. However, as soon as he makes a mistake like edler, he sees the pressbox. I'm hoping for a Tanev Ballard Pairing this year. |

Langkow could almost be good 3rd line center for a low price |
|
|
|
Would Free Agency not be better if it only ran from July 1 st to July th Midnight. All teams had to finalize their team by then? 96 hour weekend madness |

Hawks sign Sheldon Brookbank, the cheaper version of Matt Carkner. |

That would make it more interesting. I'm sure the players would prefer it to |

This pairing has 0 chance of defending against a Parise Crosby Malkin final. |

No. That concept doesn't really make any sense.
From a fan perspective it might, but it would be a logistical nightmare in multiple capacities. I don't think its something the NHLPA or NHL would want. |

There isn't much else out there unless we go the trade route or stick with our centers. |

For sure. But could be a cheap alternate (and grittier) if Schroeder isn't ready |

I wouldn't mind seeing Dominic Moore (probably unlikely based on his brother) or Jay McClement.
EDIT: I will agree that trade route would probably be the best option. I am really intrigued to see what happens with Gaunce as well. He was ranked a top 10 pick in february. I don't think he is NHL ready yet, but I am looking forward to seeing him in the next few years. |

Most third pairings wouldn't have a chance against those guys, I'm not sure I understand the point you're trying to make here. The reality is that Parise and Suter are not realistic for us and guys like Doan, Garrison, etc. may not sign today. Way too early to panic. |

Not panicing. I am pointing out a fact that if Ballard and Tanev are our third pairing again this year we can expect another first round exit. Our D needs a serious upgrade. |

I would say 99% of pairings have a 0 chance against that line. And Parise isn't even confirmed on Pens yet.... |

I disagree. Edler was the result for us losing game 1. Hamhuis in game 5. Any d-man can make a mistake.
I say this all the time. Our problem is not our dcore. We have good goaltending. Our problem is our offense. We had 8 goals in the SCF, and how many against LA? I am not saying an Offensive Overhaul, but I'd rather target a top 6 forward. |

Look around the league and tell me which teams have a better third pairing. The list won't be as long as you think, Ballard plays very well with Tanev. |

Agreed. I am not sure why there is so much hate for Ballard. Take away the $$ amount, and what Gillis gave up, and no one is complaining. I still think he is a decent dman who hasn't been given a fair shot. |

That won't be a line anyways and as you said Parise isn't a Penguin yet. And no GM is going to panic just because Suter and Parise are signing with good teams, I'm sure they all expected that to happen. Did Boston sign any big name UFA's when they won the cup? LA missed out on Kovy and then beat him in the SCF. Relax fellas, more teams hurt themselves than help themselves on this day every year. |
