Just added this to my last response..... looked it up:
The "35-and-Older" Clause:
When a player aged 35 or older signs a multi-year contract, his average salary is counted against the team's salary cap during every year of the contract, even if the player retires before the contract is up.
If the player is sent to the minor leagues, his cap hit is reduced by $100,000. - moylander
So Boston eats $5M in cap space while Tim Thomas plays golf? Ouch |

Caveat Emptor (Buyer beware). I like Doan's game too, but neither of us may like it so much in 2015 and 2016 and the team is stuck with the full cap hit.
And Phoenix hasn't even made an offer to their captain yet? - RickJ
I will gladly... take the risk. No brainer. |

EK is throwing out the rumour Langenbrunner Parise Brodeur and Suter to Detroit.
That would not sit well on Stans resume. |

Why so worried about Stan?
Doesn't Gillis and the rest of Canucks nation have a problem with $9 million plus in cap space tied up between two goalies?

Zach Parise is going to market. NJD not necessarily "out" but everyone else is "in." Start your engines.

Tampa Bay will be pressing hard for a top-4 defenseman today. If the Bolts can't sign one, expect them to trade for one.
Hjalmarsson to Tampa? - EKolb13
Hammer for Malone ?? Anyone? |

Nope .NJ now needs a goalie. |

A number of teams will make pitches for Ryan Suter, including CAR, MTL, TB, etc., but only a handful will be seriously considered.

- jhawk159
THat's right....we already have Zach Parise, Suter, and Brodeur...Saad, Lalonde, and Hutton. Silly me....
I just hope everyone who has tried to defend Tommy Boy the past year, realizes how overmatched he is when he bombs in 60+ minutes.

Exactly. Because he is not playing they don't have to pay him but they still take that cap hit. That's why he will be traded to a team reaching the cap floor.
Flyers are stuck with Pronger's $5 million for 5 more years. That's another example. If Pronger retires he would royally screw the flyers. Right now they are playing the ltir game every season with Pronger much like they did with Ian laperriere. |

At the TDL, bowman trades Scott for a 4th rounder.
Today, he will acquire John Scott's rights for a 2nd rounder.
Then Bowman will call it a day.
Then he will answer the critics by saying "We added grit".

Yet another way to circumvent the salary cap. I wonder if the new CBA will address this too? |

Yes, it can. -- RT @juiceboxismatty: @ChrisKuc Can a team go over the cap in signings today as long as they are under it by camp

But - they can trade Thomas and the cap hit - to a team under the floor.
If that concept still exists under the new CBA. |

Well, are you expecting to acquire him without losing some sort of cap flexibility? - EKolb13
Yes and no. It all depends on who else is being targeted. I think his cap hit will be more favorable than Suter but are we looking to add a legitimate #2C?
Factor in the trade dead-line, just like to see more than additional2 million in wiggle room.
yes I want to eat my cake too.

I'm so excited!
And I just can't hide it!
I'm about to lose control
And I think I like it!
5 pm and it's raining here in Barcelona. Nothing to do but sit here and give myself an ulcer waiting for Stan to make a believer out of me. Can I take another year of minor tweaks??? |

When it's all said and done, I don't think the cap hit between Suter and Boumeester is going to vary much. Maybe half a million to a million dollars. The length of Boumeester's deal is what is more attractive. |
