Which is why Lou needs to make his one pitch and only one pitch. Lou doesn't have the luxury of going back and forth with him. If he wanted to be here as much as he says he does, they the back and forth wouldn't have to occur. Lou knows what the finances are what he can offer, Zach knows this.

It appears Parise, Salvador, Sykora, Ponikarovsky, Brodeur and Hedberg will all test free agency. If none of them re-sign, the Devils lose a top-4 defenseman, two third line wingers, both of their goaltenders and their Captain.

Can't see how we can replace any of that with the FA's available and a trade will cost too much.

Have faith, they've done it before. 3rd liners can be replaced. The biggest loss is Zach and that's it. Marty had a hell of a post-season run, but his regular season is easily replaceable. NJ has a plethora of defensive prospects and while I personally want them to retain Salvador, it's not the end of the world.

Your right but the loss of Zach is a big loss lets not kid ourselves here. Yeah he may not be the dominating force that other top players are but he still very very good. Hes irreplaceable.
Edit: And unless we make a trade there are no goalies out there that even come close to what Marty will bring except Moose and hes not a sure fire bet.

All the good options are slowly slipping away to other teams. Lou needs to hopefully decide soon, or tell Parise a deadline.

Right now, our top six has Kovalchuk, Zajac, Elias, Henrique, Clarkson, and Zubrus. Our bottom six right now then would be Josefson, Gionta, Carter, Bernier, Tedenby/Pesonen etc., and Janssen.

I still think we'd be fine with our current forward situation, but Parise would make it a lot better. We aren't doing anything until Parise decides, which sucks.

Latendresse, Armstrong, all these cheap affordable guys are gone.

I don't think he's a tool. He most likely wants a cup, like we have known for a while, and its almost certain that if sid can stay healthy he'll get another one. He's also just getting maximum value. Nothing wrong with that.

To be honest, the Pens have had great management. They've made great trades, got their core players on good contracts, and have some good prospect depth. They made 2 great moves to open up the cap space for this.

To compare this to the heat is pretty unfair. James, Bosh, and Wade probably would have won a championship regardless of without good support players. Beyond Parise, Crosby, Malkin, they still have Neal, Kunitz, Sutter, Letang, Orpik, Fleury. They are very well rounded.

lou needs to just give up on parise and brodeur and make some moves like...now...parise is gonna chase the money (can't really fault him for that besides the crap he spewed about loving his team and yadda yadda yadda) and marty has already decided on staying or going...make a move already lou

It worked for them before when they tanked (Lemiuex and Jagr) so it will work again (Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Staal, Fluery etc etc). As for teams like the Devils and Detroit, they have to do it the hard way. Draft smart and make good trades and FA signings....too bad we can't suck for 5yrs straight and rebuild like that

Actually, the tanking from 82-92 was what propelled the Devils to this run from 95-2003. Shanahan, and subsequently Stevens, and Niedermeyer will both high picks. Same with Detroit and Lidstrom/Yzerman were high picks. Both teams just sustained a core around those players.
