Biron was never an option for the Flyers. Not this year, at least.
- BulliesPhan87

You just knew he was going to resign in NY. Why wouldnt he?

I agree with this point.. if all goes to plan, great.. Leights plays 15 games..if Bryz goes down for a long stretch..what do you do? I'd have preferred Biron, but more coin..

1.3 million compared to 900k is very little difference, you aren't even talking the NHL minimum salary. I would have rather paid the extra money for more of a legit backup.

I think part of this is the Flyers signing a guy who they know won't pressure Bryzgalov for playing time. A guy like Biron or Clemmensen can have a stretch where they outplay Bryzgalov and all of a sudden there is a goalie controversy. IMO that is the wrong way to do business.

I see no reason why he wouldn't have been happy there. Well, he has to be around Coach Napoleon Complex regularly, sure, but otherwise seems like a nice place to play backup.

I think paying him 1.5 million a year to contribute zero to the NHL level team is plenty loyal enough. The only way it becomes a huge issue is if Bryzgalov gets injured.

In some people's eyes this team can do no wrong, it's very amusing.

and in some eyes all they can do is wrong. do you see it is equally amusing?

I don't have any issues with what your posting. Homer to me seems to be trying to keep as much cap space open as possible right now. I dont know what he has planned but I doubt he will stand pat.

One important thing to note if he was never on the Flyers we'd be happy that we got a cheap vet with playoff experience but since he was our scapegoat eff him, right?

I'm not crazy about the signing btw, but this is nearly as bad as complaining about Shelly all year.

Yeah. I would deal for Nabokov if Bryz goes down.
- stveshdy

would he be available and what would it cost if the other teams know the flyers are up against it? why not just get a better backup?

anyway, bygones

We'll see. I wouldn't mind Suter, though it forces a trade at the blueline.
- BulliesPhan87

I want Suter over Parise if we are talking similar ridiculous money. Suter plays a style that lends himself to having many good years in the NHL ahead of him. Parise is crash and burn....and is a winger. A position I don't want to throw that kind of money at.

Add Suter and trade options will open up for Ryan (Mez+Voracek?)

I think Homer is trying to keep the most cap space available to land a big fish.

Leighton is a legit backup. And I think part of it is that they know Leighton, after having him in the Organization, and know that he can be a backup for Bryzgalov. And it has zilch to do with not pressuring Bryzgalov. Biron or Clemmensen would have been no different.

They can trade for a backup they want any time. They needed cost certanty for a reliable 15 game goalie and they got it.

you and i have had our moments where we super duper disagree, but my god the way people act in here it's so weird. i may not think every move homer makes is gold but i know for sure my team is trying to get better and not pick top 3.

Out of curiosity, why do you reply above the quote?

hedberg, Ellis, mason or Sanford would have been fine, but you'll get attacked as a naysayer even if you have a valid point. I do expect you to give him a good nickname however

No crystal ball, but if you can lockup Parise now you could easily swing Weber next year when Hartnell and Timo go off the books and simmons, Wellwood, Reed and Voracek have another year to assume a bigger roll in scoring.

All those players are most likely better options but for some reason its seems that Homer is trying to bank as much cap space as possible. He is up to something even if they dont land a big fish. Noway he stands pat.

Nah, the guy who has played 1 NHL game in the last two years, and allowed the softest cup clinching goal in the history of the League makes more sense than those guys.

Plus he's healthy as a horse, not like he's had back surgery or anything.

This backup goalie talk is disgusting

Boring as poope.

What is the latest with Doan? Is he domino 3 or 4?

I would overpay for him, as I've stated too many times. If we sign Suter or Parise, look out. The trades to follow will be big.

I actually really thought we'd get Mason or Biron.
