I think the JVR trade was a good one. I have faith that Luke Schenn can become Kronwall-esk. We will see but I think it was a good trade. Time will tell for sure

It can be a good trade. Maybe Schenn becomes a # 2 solid stay at home physical d-man who can bring some offense, and maybe JVR never develops. Time will tell. Can't judge the trade now.

Agreed, Carle will get 6 mil open market and will go to a team that fails to land Suter. If Suter signs on a team not named Redwings, I would make a bet that Carle becomes a wing

I wonder how much influence the players' union will have on the free agents. Fehr running the players' union in baseball I thought was pretty aggressive in getting its members to take the highest offers. I know Garrison supposedly left money on the table, but I wonder if the union would be thrilled to see Suter and Parise leave significant money on the table. Its probably a small detail.

If Suter doesn't accept the Flyers offer, the worst possible thing the Flyers can do is panic and overpay Carle. A move they will regret. I think we agree on that.

All the union can do is talk. I expect the players and their agents to do what the player thinks is best for him individually unless he's got union activist leanings to begin with.

His due for what? Signing a goalie that wasn't on the radar of another GM in the League?

Well, if reported is true, Parise and Suter can get $26 million in a calendar year from a team, I would have to say that is doing pretty darn good.

Well Bartulis was just bought out, creating 100k in dead cap space. Why?

Leighton is insurance. Flyers now know 900K is the most they'll pay for a backup goalie. He may end up not on the NHL roster.

Exactly.. I think it will take some time.. I can see Schenn's ceiling as a #3/4 max but I hope your right. Maybe if he is in a better situation here, he can develop. I think he's got the potential.

I definitely would give a shot to Gragnani on a two-way deal. Only 25, he played really well for Buffalo two years ago, the guy has just fallen off the planet.

Not sure I'm comfortable with anything over $5M. However you look at what these defenseman are getting today on the market and I dont see how he doesnt get $6M per year.

Interesting. read two articles today that said he may not end up being the Flyers backup goalie. They don't have the space to eat his 900K. Are those writers misinformed or is there an option to eliminate his 900K?

He was on a one way deal last year and wasn't a backup. I'm not sure that really matters. But from the sounds of it, he is the backup regardless.
