Why? Homer will move to the next plan. I can see him going after Ryan at that point.
- stveshdy

Any trade is basically robbing Peter to pay Paul. Say it takes Read, and Meszaros to land Ryan. Who replaces Meszaros?

Going to have Gustafsson, Bourdon, Schenn, and Timonen on one leg on the blueline?

If Suter, and Parise sign elsewhere, the damage control will be epic.

Noway. Leighton is an absolute steal at 900,000.

If you keep saying it, perhaps you will start to believe it.

No guarantee that Anaheim would want Mez. Have to wait and see what happens.

I don't know what the plan is Mook. I hate the fact it appears the Flyers are waiting around for answers from guys and it's holding them up from adding players who can improve the club. I'm starting to get the feeling Holmgren is going to be left holding the bag when the Free Agency dust clears. Not liking where things are heading.

When I look at all the signings today Michael Leighton is the only player who wasn't overpaid on the market today. The Flyers have a backup goalie who has to play 15-20 games. If something happens to Bryzgalov they can always upgrade during the season by trading. Example: Nabokov.

Would Flyers fans be happy with:
Suter 12/$84/$7 cap hit
Resign Voracek for 2/$6.50/$3.25 Cap hit
Trade Meszaros for inexpensive 4th line upgrade and picks -$4 cap hit
Sign Doan 3/$13.5/$4.5
Dump Shelley if possible.

you have some latitude under this scenario to up some salary. you'd max the cap and have $4.7-$4.9 at the deadline to upgarde.

You could probably get some high conditional picks for Meszaros if he plays X games.

I also believe that to be true. I can see Voracek, prospect and a pick going the other way. Anaheim and Ryan are like oil and vinager at this time.

I'd actually prefer that over a impulsive trade/signing just to get a name player.

Of all the guys who were signed today, other than Leighton how many of them didn't play in an NHL game during the 2011-2012 season?

Some played but were not very good and still cashed in today.

I'm really comparing Leighton to the other goalies on the market.

Give Homer his due.

I didn't like the draft, I didn't like the JVR trade, and I didn't like the Leighton signing.

I liked the Bobrovsky trade, but then the second round pick acquired was used on a project goaltender it didn't make much sense.

I agree with the premise don't make a move just for the sake of making one, but right now this roster isn't as good as last year, yes it's still early but there are some sizable holes.

His due for what? Signing a goalie that wasn't on the radar of another GM in the League?

I think the JVR trade was a good one. I have faith that Luke Schenn can become Kronwall-esk. We will see but I think it was a good trade. Time will tell for sure
