The more I think about it the more I am on board with a monster offer to Zach Parise. To get Parise locked up long term and make Parise and Giroux the center pieces of this team for the next decade plus would be a great thing.

As for Suter, not so much. Especially to offer them BOTH monster deals. Just doesn't make sense.

Giroux-Parise for a decade... absolutely.

You bring up an interesting philospical debate. Do you go for the big stars and the rest filler, or go for depth up and down?

To me, you go after the big stars if they make a difference, such as a Crosby or Pronger or Chara, etc all at various points in their careers.

I asked my "Magic 8 ball" and he told me the Flyers would sign Suter.

Is it possible that NHL teams know something we don't with the cap? It has been rumored that with the new CBA that the cap is expected to drop under that 70 mill it is at now... could it be possible those rumors are completely inaccurate and that figure is going to increase?

The willingness to spend by teams is very intriguing to me...

No, it will not increase. The Cap based on HRR is 70.2M officially for next year. The only way it will change is if the players share is reduced in the new CBA. And that will cause the Cap to go down, not up. It will not rise.

Well this ridiculous willingness to spend by so many teams this offseason is extremely interesting...

They're free to operate under the 70.2M Cap figure. They've been told by the League that no team will be punished if the Cap figure is lowered with the new CBA.

I would say he's made the best signing so far during free agency. All other players have been overpaid at this point.

I don't mind Leighton being the back-up, especially for the price. I think Dallas got value with Whitney, 2 year deal was pretty good.

Flyers still pushing hard for Suter. To make room, they traded Briere+2nd to the Phantoms for Matt Walker

Homer should just fiddle while watching the rest of the teams burn. These contracts being tossed around are mind numbing.
