David rundblad last year was hyped to be a star and crumbled, i hope he works out for Edmonton fans but this amount of hype won't help the guy - Paul99
runblad was different. Also could tell he was raw. He needed AHL time. We`ll see what happens with Schultz |

Why you gotta hate on Rundblad like that? He was rushed and wasn't quite ready for the NHL game, he may still be a star though.
I still hate the Turris trade |

not trying to troll but last year the college free agent everyone wanted was da costa who was hyped by tsn(he sucked on Ottawa) the year before that bobby butler on Ottawa, the year before that Casey wellman on Minnesota, the year before that Matt gilroy on rangers, the year before that Fabian brunnstrom on Dallas
All busts so relax Edmonton don't hype him up to be a star like we did for dacosta and butler. Wait to see him play first - Paul99
How many of the players you mentioned, drafted mid second round?
Answer: NONE were drafted, period. |

The big question is.... who does Schultz play with?
L.Smid (L) / J.Petry (R)
R.Whitney / J.Schultz (R)
N.Schultz (L) / C.Potter (R)
A.Sutton (L) - TaterNuts
this is what i`d do
Smid-Petry
N.Schulz-J.Schultz
Whitney-Sutton
Potter and Peckham can battle it out in camp |

Dude, Schultz is/was a can't miss 21 year old UFA 21 defensive prospect....he was on EVERY teams radar.
Full cupboards or not...there isn't a GM in the league who didn't want him. - Juice
Every team radar? Wait, Jonas Gustavsson was on everyone radar 3 years ago so relax big boy. Again like I said. There's a really big step in between American University Hockey and NHL.
I'm really happy for EDM since they needed that help but don't already think he's the saviour |

This isn't just to be lame, but I say he could play with N.Schultz. Good mentor and Whitney (healthy) could handle picking up after Potter. Plus, Potter really isn't terrible.
Edit
Sorry misread that post |

Are we talking about gustavsson or Schultz here? Two very different situations. One was drafted in the second round, one was a late bloomer at 25...VERY different...big boy.
When you can get a player as highly regarded as him for nothing but money, you go for him. There isn't a GM in the league that is telling him president/owner that he didn't at least try. |

Even Though I am glad its over Im glad he went to Edmonton as they need help more than these other teams and nice to see the smaller market get someone over these teams that just throw money at everything good or bad. - madchef
Ever since Katz got the team, the Oilers haven't been afraid to spend. |

There isn't any all I said.. You came here to talk BS, this thread is a celebration of Oiler fans that an FA, albeit an unproven one, has chosen to play here. Not NY, not Van and not in any other market. As fans of this team we've seen our team and city brutalized by stars on their way out and EVERYone is entitled to think and say what they wish but for many of us fans that felt the sting, this is vindication that this place isn't all that bad. Coming in here and raining on our parade, very douchey and unnecessary. Be a grown up or piss off. - mckeevs2012
.....right I came here to talk BS yet some of your brethren agreed with me and didn't respond like an attack dog and had some banter with me where i practically congratulated you guys. Try the bottom of page 3 and search out the ones who were actually coming here to rain on your signing parade. |

yep. that'll bring some pressure though. whoever said there's no pressure to win in edmonton is probably going to be wrong this year, and schultz immediately becomes the highest profile D on the team now just because of this and the Gretz call etc.
Fair or not, (and it's not fair), he's a massive focal point next year on a team that should at least challenge for the playoffs so we'll see how he does. it'll be interesting. - chester97
Completely agree. Its gunna be interesting to see how he lives up to this hype. |

they will not go after matt carle. Doubt they sign a dman. It sounds that Klefbom is ready but he will honor his last year in Sweden. + they need a bit of coin to resign the young kids next summer |

He's a really good prospect again and I'm not just saying that to you in particular but people are already putting him on the top when he actually didn't prove anything yet. There's a sh*t load of players that we're in the same boat as him and never did something. Don't forget he's one lucky player to have finished his 3 years of playing in the university ranks. The player had the time to perfect his game to the university level. Which is not comparable to the NHL |

I'm interested to see how Klefbom does. SOunds like hes doing good things at development camp. If he is ready, the Oil can talk to his team in Sweden and maybe bring him over if they want and give him some experience. Plus Petry started looking really good last year so he could easily be moved up into the top 2 with more minutes if he continues to improve. And hopefully add a healthier Ryan Whitney into the mix, theres the top pairing right there. ALthough Smid is a beast defensively...

How can people compare Schultz as Matt Gillroy or Bobby Butler, or the Monster?
None of those guys were drafted at all? Schultz was drafted in the second round. There have been alot of greats, and not-so-greats drafted in the second round, but he has always had potential, where-as these other guys were ignored for a reason. |
