Dammit. I wanted Del Zotto and Schultz to be Leetch and Zubov 2.0.

Seeing as how that's not even a website, I would say yes.

People need to realize that he is a prospect, and all this hype created by the media makes him out to be some savior to hockey. He could end up just being another decent 5/6 guy. It's exciting Edmonton got him because he has a lot of potential, and will develop with so much young talent. But by no means is he going to stop in and be an all-star.

As for contracts, hopefully after this season and the season after that when we have to sign Hall, Eberle, Schultz, and RNH, they all want to remain together. Depending on how well they perform and the price for these players, hopefully by then the Oilers have serious potential and they realize it by maybe taking a small pay cut. Kevin Bieksa did it in Vancouver, he took a million off his contract or something like that, and hes a douchebag.

I think Burke has a seat for you in his office, rightfully named "the land of pretending like you're happy with what you didn't get"

Even Though I am glad its over Im glad he went to Edmonton as they need help more than these other teams and nice to see the smaller market get someone over these teams that just throw money at everything good or bad.

Plus Horcs/Smyth/Whitney/Bulins ect.... will be off the books. I'm really looking forward to the oilers this year. Especially if they can sign a decent role player or 2. Look out for Orange and Blue

He's already demanding top ice time prior to ever playing a second in the NHL. It will be interesting to see how coachable this Bert lookalike actually is. Sounds like a Russian.

- DeuceNine

I think it was more talking with teams and assessing the opportunity to play top 4 minutes. What's the big deal with doing that? Shouldn't that be a factor in deciding which team to sign with? Or maybe he should just pick the team with the coolest logo despite his own personal opportunities.

not trying to troll but last year the college free agent everyone wanted was da costa who was hyped by tsn(he sucked on Ottawa) the year before that bobby butler on Ottawa, the year before that Casey wellman on Minnesota, the year before that Matt gilroy on rangers, the year before that Fabian brunnstrom on Dallas

All busts so relax Edmonton don't hype him up to be a star like we did for dacosta and butler. Wait to see him play first

I think Schultz made the right choice for his career. He can grow with the rest of the young talent in Edmonton, and IMO he picked the place that provided more long term success over the course of his career.

Sure you didn't... With your deep play off run last season it is very easy to see the cupboards are well stocked..

.....nope truly didn't and yes we've got plenty of dmen. Seems most of you oiler fans seem to want to go on attack when all I said was he is unproven and the circus was a joke after clearly stating i wasnt trolling. Tell me how many more years do you figure you'll have to pick 1st overall before you even sniff the playoffs?

Very happy. he may not be the second coming or so, but it's like getting the first 2 picks in the draft. First yaks, then him, and now free agency starts, where because of all the good news, other players will be looking harder at us to join than before. Great news for the team and us oiler fans, after all those horrible years, the pronger thing, the heatley thing, finally, a light at the end of the tunnel.

As to all those hater fans from the leafs etc, we will be sure to run over you on our way to respectability, and we might even stop and reverse back over top of you just for kicks and giggles because we can. This is a scary damn team that is missing only a couple pieces, and just get the time in for the kids to get experience.

I dont think any of them were at talented as Shultz. Shultz hype is def more than those others.

You can't compare Schultz to ANY of those guys. Statistically or otherwise.

David rundblad last year was hyped to be a star and crumbled, i hope he works out for Edmonton fans but this amount of hype won't help the guy

Dude, Schultz is/was a can't miss 21 year old UFA defensive prospect....he was on EVERY teams radar.

Full cupboards or not...there isn't a GM in the league who didn't want him.

There isn't any all I said.. You came here to talk BS, this thread is a celebration of Oiler fans that an FA, albeit an unproven one, has chosen to play here. Not NY, not Van and not in any other market. As fans of this team we've seen our team and city brutalized by stars on their way out and EVERYone is entitled to think and say what they wish but for many of us fans that felt the sting, this is vindication that this place isn't all that bad. Coming in here and raining on our parade, very douchey and unnecessary. Be a grown up or piss off.

....are you positive 26 teams wanted him? Thanks but didn't want him anyways....the cupboard here is pretty stocked full of defensemen, we have more than we know what to do with including a few high end prospects at the position.
- twistedwrister9

even teams stocked w d were in the running...dont kid yoself.....its like getting a free 1st rnd draft pick (thx anaheim) he is going to be better than half of em, book it!!! edm not the worst place to play anymore....only calgary has to over pay now. oh n you too sabres (leino)

Good work, Oilers! Hopefully he can solidify your guys' blue line a bit, not sold on this guy being a superstar but if he can turn out to be a solid 2nd-pairing dman it would still be a big step in the right direction.

The big question is.... who does Schultz play with?

L.Smid (L) / J.Petry (R)
R.Whitney (L) / J.Schultz (R)
N.Schultz (L) / C.Potter (R)
A.Sutton (L)
