Good luck with him Oilers fans! This could be an insanely important piece a couple years from now
But since he didn't sign in Toronto...pfffft, Schultz sucks.

Smart by Schultz, Ottawa-Toronto-Vancouver-rangers Fanbase are more critical for hyped up prospects to succeed and help the team win.
If he doesn't live up to expectations he can still be liked by Edmonton fans like paajarvi |

probably, but we all know he's nuts anyways.
the oilers need to make sure they don't have at worst a 15% chance at the #1 pick next year to not be a joke. they've had pretty easy decisions for the last three years, it's time to put it together. - chester97
I agree... I think it's time to be shooting for the playoffs. |

....what makes him such a big fish? He hasn't played a minute in the league, so tell me how he is all of the sudden can't miss. Plenty of former hobey baker nominated college free agents that have flopped. What's to say he's not the next Matt Gilroy. Not trolling so much as asking an honest question. So much excitement over an unproven commodity. - twistedwrister9

Kid wanted guaranteed ice time. There are only a few teams who could make that commitment. Sure alot of teams wanted him. But he already didnt want alot of teams. If van said ok we will give you top ice time there is a good chance he woulda signed there. This is situation is def diff than trying to get a Parise or B. Richards or Hossa in FA market.
Either way though. Congratz to you guys on getting the kid. You guys really need him and his Right hand shot. Hopefully he pans out. - poisondhearts37
He's already demanding top ice time prior to ever playing a second in the NHL. It will be interesting to see how coachable this Bert lookalike actually is. Sounds like a Russian.

who cares hes was wanted by 26 teams, n he picked oilers . not your team - hoasis
....are you positive 26 teams wanted him? Thanks but didn't want him anyways....the cupboard here is pretty stocked full of defensemen, we have more than we know what to do with including a few high end prospects at the position. |

now they are an above-average team with weak goaltending who are trying to dump salary and acquire certain pieces.
the hawks team that won the cup was almost an aberration in terms of the perfect mix of a really strong young core with fantastic support players, strong depth, rookie or cheap contracts, and an unproven goaltender that caught fire.
being as it was dismantled afterwards, its tough to say they're a model to build after. although just one cup win makes it more then worth it, obviously. |

Those who were in the room say Oilers new coach Ralph Krueger was incredibly impressive in his presentation to Justin Schultz.

People need to realize that he is a prospect, and all this hype created by the media makes him out to be some savior to hockey. He could end up just being another decent 5/6 guy. It's exciting Edmonton got him because he has a lot of potential, and will develop with so much young talent. But by no means is he going to stop in and be an all-star.
As for contracts, hopefully after this season and the season after that when we have to sign Hall, Eberle, Schultz, and RNH, they all want to remain together. Depending on how well they perform and the price for these players, hopefully by then the Oilers have serious potential and they realize it by maybe taking a small pay cut. Kevin Bieksa did it in Vancouver, he took a million off his contract or something like that, and hes a douchebag. |

somebody better feed this fool cause about 29 teams are gonna be coming to crush this lil ant for the sideshow circus he put on. I say he's got BUST written all over him and he helps edmonton to another 29th overall finish. Then next year when all the entry levels are up and the cap is about 70% what it is now the Oil find out what having Kevin LOwe still running the shots means when they still suck and can't afford the 8 mil a season Hall and Eberle will both want..... - RichardPeterNuss
