Then, there was a report that he turned down an offer that was like what Bertuzzi got, with no mention of what he specifically disliked about it.

Now, he's signed a deal with a cap hit only 175k higher in cap hit than Bertuzzi's. Could it be that contract negotiations are simply difficult?

I know and for some reason I don't see him as this so called "mentor" - I actually don't think he "gets" the kids nor does he want to. Just a sense really but when hear Stauffer hint at perhaps Smyth isn't as well liked in the room as some think well then maybe there is fire after a little smoke.

I suppose it's a bit cold to attack him while he's away on his honeymoon.

I just never bought the Smyth is only in it for the money stuff. I do think he's partially in it for the money, and I wouldn't be surprised if that 4.5 million dollar contract has 3+ million in salary this season. The 2.25 cap hit is a decent compromise though imo.

For the record, I do agree with Stauffer that Smyth needs to see top 6 time and PP time as a nice treat from now on, and hopefully Krueger will crack the whip.

It is kind of neat how things turned out with regards to Schultz/Anaheim/Edmonton. Karma I guess.
