because dmen interact with each other on the ice all the time right?
- HAMgerber

Are you trying to say they never touch each other? LOL. Like a d man has never had a hit on a d man. Great joke.

I highly doubt Suter would sign in Edmonton either.
Agreed we lack a #1 D-man, but we have too many low end D-men as it is. Schultz the Elder will supply all the back-end leadership we could ever want, but it seems like Hall is our leader amongst the forwards, which speaks poorly of Smyth. Doan would be awesome. Jagr for a year would be great - with either of them we'd have a shot at making the playoffs (between our existing Wunderkids getting a year older and adding Yacks and Schultz, we just got a lot better) but Jagr could do so much to mentor our glass cannons. Plus Hemsky is apparently the catnip to Jagr's wussycat. Maybe we'll see a happy Hemsky on the ice again. Seems like forever.

interesting comments about hall. from the outside it seems like if one of the young kids goes, it's him. eberle is going to be the next sakic/yzerman and in my mind the next captain. the nuge is untouchable and reminds me of a guy like oates with his vision, nail is going to be a phenom and that leaves hall as the guy to trade for defensive help. i only say that b/c he's injury prone (yes, potter's skate thing was a freak accident) but he plays like a maniac.

hall to montreal for pk. throw in picks or whatever on each side but this trade helps both teams. edmonton gets a young jovo to bolster it's backend. they should also deal hemsky to philly for mezaros.

I would deal hemsky for meszaros in a flash.
Not sure about hall for pk though.

I think a common misconception when speaking of the oilers defensive woes is how many solid prospects we have back there. A very solid group that could help in the very near future.

Without including the newly acquired schultz, we have a bluechipper in oscar klefbom. As well as martin gernat, marincin, fedun and musil. All of which can be considered at the very least solid.

With the proposed meszaros, we also have a group that currently includes smid, petry n.shultz, j. Schultz and whitney.
I think we can ride our young forwards and also wait for any of those defensive prospects to develop. Which also doesbt cost us a thing.

Why is it always Hall being thrown in the big "trade for D" suggestions?

Not to say they're right; but because no one wants to offer up a top pairing dman for gags, hemmer or even prv.

And he probably seems to be the logical guy moving out of the big 4. At least the one we'd part with easiest

Imo anyway. Just a guess though

Who did Edmonton send to Toronto to help convince Shultz to sign? Hall. They must see him as the future leader of the team.

Either that or Hall can tell Schultz how hot the hookers and puck bunnies in Edmonton are.

Bang on.... out of the "big 4"... over the next 3 years... Hall will play the least amount of games... and probably the least amount of points.

Cannot wait for all the Leafs fans to come in here and tell us how crappy of a player he is and how stupid he is for choosing refinery city..

Congratz to the Oilers on the signing of what could be a good prospect.

I realize this is NOT going to happen, but what if Suter looks at the Oilers and realizes that if he came here this team would be just deadly, that would be hilarious if he came here.

I was also thinking over it last evening about Hemsky for Mezaros...I actually would entertain the idea for the trade. I think PHI will hold off until all the other big fishes get snatched before going for Hemsky. Both coming off injury from last season, good opportunity to get back into form. I would still consider speaking to WSH about Green. Hemsky+Whitney+prospect for Green.

Hall is not going anywhere... The only contraversy involving him in the future will be who the next Captain will be.
He may play wreckless, but that is all part of his competitive game. The only popular players that may be gone someday are Smyth, Gagner and Hemsky. All the top kids will be retained with lucrative contracts after their respective ELC are done...and the Oilers will be able to afford it.
