I'm not certain I agree that he has been selfish.
He had options and he exersized them. That's no different than most others.
In the current situation he is being advised by others. He took the time to listen to offers, meet with coaching staffs and key organizational personnel.
He is a young player and it's important at this stage of his career to develop his potential. He obviously felt comfortable with the Oilers coaches and his opportunities.
This hardly makes him selfish. It's what he should be doing is taking a long term view of his career and finding the situation that works for him. - Sabata
Just like Pronger left because of what is best for him and his family. Pronger did what was best for his family and whatever else made him decide to leave. Yes EDM hated his decision and choice, but what can ya do. It's done and over with and time to move on. Just like Schultz felt ANA wasn't the place for him to grow and he chose EDM for whatever reasons too. |

Hugefemale dog, answer one question for me and I'll drop it.
How is saying "He doesn't deserve a congratulations from fans of other teams because he hasn't proven a thing and congrats should be saved for "real" FA signings from proven players like Parise, Doan, etc. trolling?
I mean... really?
Do you possibly think you may be sitting on a stick? - StayTunedMTC
I dont care one way or another for congratulations. U came on this thread remember?
U came here to hate on an organizations fan base for being happy about signing a desirable free agent. One that doesnt generally do so.
Those are the facts of the discussion.

Listen I have no problem admitting that most of the best bands come from Canada. Saw the sheepdogs for free yesterday. That were as good as advertised. |

I understand what you're saying.
The selfish part for me... most players, even if they didn't want to play somewhere, would agree to a trade of some sorts, or let his intentions be known early so some kind of compensation could be given.
Put it this way, just because something is legal doesn't make it unethical, if you follow my drift. That situation could have been handled differently and resulted in a more positive manner.
I don't wish him ill will or anything, hope he grows up a bit is all. I think he will. |

Disappointed he didn't sign with the Canucks, yes, but he still would have been smarter to sign in NY or Ottawa, or any other playoff bound city. He will be in a pressure cooker now where as a rookie dman, he will be expected to perform at a very hight level and be the saviour of the franchise. On a better team, he may have gotten #4 or #5 minutes, but could ease into the lineup and be somewhat protected. Now he will be facing the other teams top forwards night in and night out. He'll be a good player, but defensively, he will get owned by the Pavel Datsuks of the league. I still say his decision was based on the opportubity to earn his $2.85M in bonus money, the playoffs obviously weren't a consideration.
Congrats on your cup win by the way. I couldn't be happier for Willie Mitchell. - Jimka44
Who says the Oilers are not playoff bound? Can you read the future? I can't but you cannot say the Oilers won't make the playoffs. Yes, Yes, they have been sitting in the basement for the past 4 years. But things change. I am NOT saying they will make the playoffs, I am just saying your argument is based on knowing the future.

Once again, you didn't read what I wrote.
That's why I find you so amusing.
For the last time, I was talking about other fan bases congratulating your team for signing a guy who hasn't played one NHL game yet. My personal opinion is congratulations should be reserved for signing proven players, not "who knows" players.
Reading comprehension is your problem.
Have a good day. |

Well....I'm a 30 min drive from Canada and listen to the Canadian rock station over the local one. I've seen City and Colour twice and Alexisonfire thrice. Dallas is a fantastic musician.
....being so close to the border we get a lot of Canadian musicians playing here. |

Congrats to Edmonton and the Oilers fans! I think you guys got a great player that will be great on your team! I was hoping he'd come to the Canucks because I'm a Canucks fan, but the hockey fan in me who just loves the game was secretly hoping he'd go to Edmonton. I'm going to get Center Ice this year just so I can watch every Oilers game I can. Has there ever been two players nominated as finalists for the Calder in one year? If not this could be the year, Yaks and Schultz for Calder! Paul Coffey is one of my favorite all time players, and this kid definitely has the potential to be that (I know the haters are going to say that he hasn't played a game in the NHL, but he's a better prospect than Murray, and I just said potential). Also congrats to Richard, get off of HB and enjoy your wedding day already! - northofthe49th
I'd only suggest you watch the first 20 games, and the last 20 games. Otherwise, the level of badness and ridiculousness that you Canucks fans aren't used to may just drive you insane. No, but thanks for the positive comment! It's good to see now and again from rival teams! |

Pronger left because he slept with too many women that was NOT his wife. And Edmonton was his wife's (from St. Louis) first move from home, and she wanted to be closer to St. Louis. Pronger's wife dictated that trade. Your right though, people hated the trade, but we cant keep whining about it. Today is a good day for the Oil. |

So if Yakupov feels he can be a better player by being with Detroit. That would make it ok for him not to play for EDM until they traded him?
You're retarded.

Schultz isnt expected to be the saviour of the franchise.
At this point, That title is reserved for hall, ebs, nuge and yakupov.
Hes expected to fill a major hole(s) on a porous defence.
I dont even expect him to be our best dman next year. Hes a rookie.
Its thin back there, but the ignorance to how good a healthy whitney, or smid or petry is, is laughable.
I hope schultz can make the oilers better. |

I don't like the idea of a drafted player demanding a trade but if Yakupov decided he'd rather play in Detroit and was ok with waiting 4 years to play in the NHL I don't think there's anything wrong with that. |

Relax...LOL. My goodness the drama from a MTL fan. This site is good, a signing with another team that has no direct effect to another team causes people to troll like nuts. Hhaha. I don't know specifically why Schultz did not sign with ANA, he just did what he did based on whatever influence he had. Read...LOL. |
