I know Edmonton fans would be talking poop about him just like we are if they didn't get him, but they did so I understand why they're all of a sudden not talking poop like they were.

They can say it's jealousy.. that doesn't make sense, but whatever lets them sleep better at night. My problem with the kid is pretty much no NHL player, no matter how good or bad they are, have acted as selfishly and pooptly as this kid has, and he hasn't even played a game yet.

I hope for his sake and Edmonton's sake he grows the (frank) up. That just screams cancer.

Congrats to Edmonton and the Oilers fans! I think you guys got a great player that will be great on your team! I was hoping he'd come to the Canucks because I'm a Canucks fan, but the hockey fan in me who just loves the game was secretly hoping he'd go to Edmonton. I'm going to get Center Ice this year just so I can watch every Oilers game I can. Has there ever been two players nominated as finalists for the Calder in one year? If not this could be the year, Yaks and Schultz for Calder! Paul Coffey is one of my favorite all time players, and this kid definitely has the potential to be that (I know the haters are going to say that he hasn't played a game in the NHL, but he's a better prospect than Murray, and I just said potential). Also congrats to Richard, get off of HB and enjoy your wedding day already!

....this ^. Kid should've been grateful he was drafted and honored the team that drafted and showed faith in him. Brian Campbell tried to pull that crap on buffalo after he won dman of the year, he wanted to not sign and go back in the draft. His dad made him honor the Sabres commitment and sign.

Whether rightly so or not, schultz was a highly sought after free agent. And he chose the oilers. Its a win for them.

No one thinks theres no chance hes not a bust, but his pedigree, ridiculous pt. totals and style of play gives us reason to believe he could be the real deal.

If he didn't sign with oilers how would you feel about him? I think that's the point he's making. I've got no problem with the way Schultz handled the situation as far as leaving Anaheim. The thing about the draft is, there's really no commitment being made on either end when a player is chosen, a team is just gaining control of a player's professional situation for a period of time. If you want to play in the NHL during that period, great, play with the team that chose you. If, on the other hand, you're not satisfied with the team that chose you then you don't have to sign with them but you have to wait out that period before you get your shot at the pros. That's all that happened here. I don't think there's any obligation for any player to play for the team that drafts him.

My concern here is that I (and let's be honest, most of us) hadn't heard of this kid until he decided that he wasn't signing with Anaheim and it became a controversy. He's a second round pick who played 3 years of college hockey, that's far from a sure thing. He's also managed to generate so much hype that it's going to be nearly impossible to live up to expectations. If this kid isn't a Calder contender lots of people are going to be calling him a bust. I'm not just saying this because he didn't land in Toronto and I'm bitter. I said last week when Toronto was still a favorite that I really wasn't too high on the guy.

Having said that, if he's going to succeed anywhere it's going to be in Edmonton where he'll have tons of ice time and opportunity. I hope he can make a good go of it.
