Could a farmer tell a difference between a ribbon winning corn seed and a normal corn seed or a bad corn seed?

Bottom line. He'd of been a top 5 pick in this years draft. Not to mention hes got 3 extra years of development on those guys.

Which of these seeds produces the best plant, which produces an average plant, and which produces a bad plant?

Gilroy was never drafted. There was a reason every team ignored him his draft year. Schultz was drafted 43 overall by the Ducks. Completely different story.

So Schultz signs with the Oilers. Now they'll improve to being the 3RD worst defensive team in the league.

Well, if your going to be all grown up about it then I'm going to shut the hell up. Point is fans are excited. Things are kind of desperate here and this gives us a lot to look forward to, for better or worse.

He's also 22 and draft-elgible guys are mostly 18...that's like saying an 18 year old should be top five in a CHL draft...but congrats anyway being able to convince players to come to Buffalo last year probably had similar fanfare as this. Just hope he's Ehrhoff and not Leino (not that I've given up on him yet)

Yes, because moving up from 23rd in the league for goals against to 27th makes sense

Well done Edmonton. Oiler games will be the most exciting to watch next year.

What a wonderful, young team the Oilers have become.

When people come here with their bitterness and jealousy, just be polite. You won a really important recruitment battle today. It is another big step towards returning the Oil to an elite status.

As far as people coming in and knocking the kid, remember jealousy is a powerful motivator. Ignore them stay polite, they will come around.

By all means be excited.

What I said wasn't a slight towards the Edmonton fans nor the Oilers.

I was just saying it was funny reading through the blogs seeing all the other fan bases congratulating you to a pretty high level for signing an unproven guy who is by all accounts selfish.

I personally save congratulations to teams who sign big time FA's like Parise, Doan, or big trades. I think it's a little much congratulating a team for signing an unproven guy.

No disrespect to you or your team. I hope he works out. But (frank) the congrats.

He is not a typical FA. He hasn't played a game yet.

Plenty of players have had potential and failed at the NHL level.

You don't congratulate a team for signing a guy who has never played. Congratulate them for signing a guy who has played, is proven, and decides to play there.

Look, Edmonton fans are getting mad at me right now, and it's quite funny.

I never said for them not to be happy. They should be.

What I'm saying is all these fan bases are coming in here congratulating them like they just signed Parise or Doan, etc.

They didn't. They signed a kid out of college.... woohoo

- StayTunedMTC

Really? So no congratulations for any teams on drafting young awesome players year after year since they haven't proven themselves at the NHL level, no congratulations for bringing over great players from Europe, etc etc.

It's not up to you to determine who gets congratulations; Schultz makes the Oiler's d-corps better just being there. I'm not here to have a pissing match with you, I'm here to say congrats because Schultz (regardless of his outcome) has already made the team, is young and willing to play. Any team who has a poopty defence and has a willing young guy ready to play for them should be pat on the back for even getting them.

Barker was a project and cheap. Well worth the risk. So is Schultz. This remark is only valid if we paid 4mil+/per for them.

Let's see. It's not up to me to determine who gets congratulations (which I never said, merely giving my opinion), yet you then tell me why I should congratulate Edmonton.

Bud, it's not up to you either. I'm entitled to my opinion just as much as you.

I mean should I pat myself on the back for taking a shower this morning? Or after a long day's work? Isn't that what I'm supposed to do? Isn't a team with a poopty defense supposed to improve it? That doesn't deserve a pat on the back in my opinion.
