1 of 4 necessary moves was completed today which is good and refreshing. What is left? #1 Goalie and a Purge of Connolly and Lombardi.
Re: Schultz
I don't blame Schultz for not coming here if he wanted Top 4 mins... it would be soo hard for him to do break our lineup nevertheless the Top 4. With Phanuef, Gardiner, Liles and Gunner (underrated and not old), along with Reilly being so highly touted and will probably be in the NHL in 2013. Not to mention Percy and Blacker (who I think were both drafted higher and have been playing against better competition throughout their careers) and also Franson who isn't old and is pretty offensive and could also make a run for bigger minutes. |

Connolly's 2012-2013 stats:
74 games played, 18 goals 53 assists, 71 points
Gets a 4 year extension at 5 mil/per.

Calgary probably won't move him but the point of Bouwmeester being better than Komisarek also still stands. - Two_For_Truth

Armstrong plays a game that requires an edge and with all his injuries, there's no guarantee he's going to be effective. Without the edge, he's no better than an career AHLer.
Lombardi still has wheels and that holds some value in the NHL. He can also play the wing or center and his defensive game has always been ok.
Connolly can play like a top 6 forward when he wants to be; the high-end talent never really goes away, just doesn't show up regularly. I see a contender picking up a Connolly for insurance come trade deadline. I also can see Connolly having a career year and stealing Bozak's spot between Lupul and Kessel. - gravyface
Contract seasons do good things for guys like Connolly. |

I think Burke is well aware of how good Parise is, since I believe he was the best player for the US in the Olympics. I think he'll offer him a big deal, not sure about about the long-term though, plus there will be better teams bidding for Mr.Parises' services. I'm not holding my breath. - blahman20
Burke really needs to get over his stance against long term deals... It's the new black... and no high profile UFA signs without one... and Parise at his age is not exactly a risk for a long term deal, in my opinion...

Usually this is the case. But Connolly was very excited to come here and he worked his ass off to make an impression. But he didn't... he's skating was terrible. Not a good sign. |

I know this isn't Burke's fault. Schultz obviously already had his mind made up as I can't see this dog and pony show really affecting his decision. But he has to do something drastic and something NOT detrimental to this (frank)ing team. I know it's a broken record but for frig's sake at least fix 1 hole will ya? I should wait until tomorrow is over but I'm just getting it out of the way now. |

I tend to agree, it's the only way you're going to get a top star via free agency these days. Granted, some players are way over-paid and are given much too long of a term, but I don't think Parise will be one of those guys. He's only 27 years old, still has lots of miles left of him...plus a long-term doesn't nessicarily mean he'll be hear for all those years, you never know what will happen. |

Why waste cap space on a buyout. I'm sure he could be traded for 6th or 7th pick. - Fakepartofme

The Leafs need to spend some of the kajillion dollars they make a year and get one of those hypnotists and go to work on the team as a whole and make them think it's October/November for the whole year. |
