Gotta love Berger; as soon as its clear Schultz won't be coming here, he says he woulda been Toronto's top Dman.
- Feeling Glucky?

Why not?

We got the 40 goal scorer to never score 40, and if he came, the best defensemen to never play a game

Works out perfectly

Bouwmeester would cost more than Komisarek but the different in talent is unmistakable. Komisarek is a healthy scratch while Bouwmeester leads his team in ice time. He's underachieved but would be a significant upgrade over Komisarek.

There was a slight exaggeration on my part but I believe the point was made... and still stands... No to JBo...

I can imagine the raging boners over in the Oilers thread

The guy who said they'll have the top-4 forwards in the League probably just died for, the force of the money shot he gave himself.

Because, those guys are more expensive to buy out, and play often enough that they might have some value.
- Feeling Glucky?

I didn't mean to buy them out.. I know that would be too expensive against the CAP, however in the case of Connolly, perhaps at or near the start of the season he can be put on waivers...

I don't think Burke is done with LACK just yet.

Though now I guess it's Louis CK.

I've always wanted Zach Parise...I was saying on these boards a few years ago that Toronto should try and pry him out of NJ, but I knew it was never a real possibility. I doubt Toronto can lure him here, but damn i'd love him...he's a top player in my eyes, and we have to remember he had kind of a down year after getting off to a slow start due to coming off a serious injury. I think he'll even be better going forward, probably more hungry now too since he lost in the Cup Finals this year. I'm just always scared of huge long term deals over 6 years, but it's what top players getting right now so you have to adapt to the times. Whatever teams gets him is going to have a heck of a player for the next 5-7 years.

also rids them of a professional contract - which I believe Burke needs - particularly if he's got some deal cooked up to take on some else's bad contract in the 2 for 1 type situation... lots of RFA contracts to add/re-up etc.

BUT... why Armstrong - ahead of the likes of Connolly and Lombardi. They played more games - but are in no way suitable for third or fourth line duty.. and I've said it before - will say it again...

if Komisarek, COnnolly and Lombardi are in the line-up - they are taken roster spots away from young players who need to develop.

- BorjeFan4Ever

Armstrong was the cheapest buy-out. Komisarek would be on the cap for another four years if they bought him out now.

Unfortunately, I think they still have high hopes for Connolly and Lombardi, especially Connolly.

Agreed... he might not be a big power forward but I'd love to see Burke back the money truck up to Newport's office doors tomorrow...

So I guess this means Burke will sign Oli Jokinen tomorrow and that will be that...

another rough year

oh well hold on to that draft pick Burkie!

- BlowMonkey

You as well deserve to die for that. The scary part was that I was thinking the same thing.

Komisarek's contributions - easily replaced by Holzer
Connolly and Lombardi - easily replaced by Colborne, Kadri and or a couple of others.

Not to mention that the three account for more than 11 Million against the CAP.

- BorjeFan4Ever

Armstrong plays a game that requires an edge and with all his injuries, there's no guarantee he's going to be effective. Without the edge, he's no better than an career AHLer.

Lombardi still has wheels and that holds some value in the NHL. He can also play the wing or center and his defensive game has always been ok.

Connolly can play like a top 6 forward when he wants to be; the high-end talent never really goes away, just doesn't show up regularly. I see a contender picking up a Connolly for insurance come trade deadline. I also can see Connolly having a career year and stealing Bozak's spot between Lupul and Kessel.

Calgary probably won't move him but the point of Bouwmeester being better than Komisarek also still stands.

It won't matter how much money he offers. He won't offer anything longer than 6 or so years. So right there that's killed his chance.

I think Burke is well aware of how good Parise is, since I believe he was the best player for the US in the Olympics. I think he'll offer him a big deal, not sure about about the long-term though, plus there will be better teams bidding for Mr.Parises' services. I'm not holding my breath.

Connolly's 2012-2013 stats:

74 games played, 18 goals 53 assists, 71 points

Gets a 4 year extension at 4.75 mil/per.
