It was sounding like that for past day or so. Seems like the Gretzky/Coffey calls held some serious weight. - AlexF
Yup. Probably didn't hurt. Apparently he refused calls from Lidstrom and Chelios, lol. Detroit wasn't on his list, so no call. |

I would have taken a call from Lidstrom on general principle. That's insane. |

Like I sai before, I don't know the kid, but from all I hear, the kid is a little different, he probably felt uncomfortable taking the call if he knew he had no intention in signing in Detroit. |

That and hes probably thinking about 3 years from now
Edmonton-powerhouse
Ottawa-who knows
Toronto-exact same place they are now
NYR- on their way down/out
Van- Dido^ - I-own_da-Northwest
Sort of scratching my head based on how you came up with this projection. As I mentioned yesterday and at the risk of stating the obvious, the essentials to a strong hockey team are a potent scoring top 6, offensive depth/defensive responsibility/physicality in your bottom 6, solid defense, strong goaltending.
The Oilers have got themselves the making of a potent scoring top 6. And that's it for now. Apparently they've got some decent prospects in D (and if Shultz signs) but they're never a sure thing. As for the rest, all to be filled. It'll be a while yet. Life is seldom so linear, else our predictions would always be obvious and correct.
Ottawa seem closer to the reality of being a strong team with a good young core. They are more complete than the top-heavy Oilers at present.
TO, I might agree with you, though it's tough to say that nothing they do from now to 3 years will work out as we simply don't know.
NYR/VAN - Gillis seems to be constantly looking for moves. If he does nothing for the next 3 years then yes, we'll be declining. Nothing I've seen from him would indicate he'd do nothing and our core will still be at a serviceable age in 3 years. NYR seem to have a lot of youth in their core and they always attract UFAs. I hate they way they play, but they'll be solid for years yet. |

Agreed. If Gillis can get a promising prospect for Luongo than our future will be looking bright. A lot rides on Schultz and the Luongo trade.

I like the direction that Canucks have taken for prospects the last 2 years. A team like Oilers will be a young team of prospects while we will have a veteran team and when a spot opens it will be replaced by a player who fits right in. In the same manner as Schneider just did. This year Jensen Kassian might make that move too if not next year.
We have Corrado Sauve and Connauton ready to make the jump soon.
Keep building MG |
