Not sure if this is old news or not, but another FA goalie off the market, Biron re-signs with NYR.

That's pretty weak. I've turned off the twitter feed, some Canuck "fans" are disgraceful.

I dont understand how all of these teams are dropping one by one. Why wouldnt he just get it over with and say one team.

Agreed. It's a bit rich to hope for this kid one minute and hate him the next. I'm not a huge fan of the reality tv style Shultz has used to review the teams but those "fans" need to grow up.

Personally, I liked Garrisons play, and yes he made strides. However, I credit his time with Campbell and even Jovanoski as a huge benefit. To say his POSSIBLE firther improvement is "likely" is a stretch. If he was younger, if he wasn't passed over by virtually everyone years ago I could agree. This a real stretch for 5 mil per. That being said, when Tallon offered 3.5, I didn't think that was gonna get it done as well. So, he probably thought he wasn't going to gamble on that thought process either.

Gillis has shown in the past that he doesn't get caught up in the hype and over pay, so if Garrison doesn't sign with FLA and he wants to play in VAN he may not like the contract offer. I would guess another team will back up the truck load of money for him.

If the Canucks were willing to take on a $3.7M cap hit for Schultz, you would think that spending $4.5M on Garrison is not that big of a stretch.

Do you think Gillis puts Garrison on the same level as Hamhuis/Bieksa? I say save the $ for Edler.

4.5 is fine. How do you go up to Bieksa or Hamhuis and say here is Garrison he makes 5.5 mil per and 5 years?

No bud, it just sort of feels that way with "contestants" dropping out of the competition one by one. Some people think it's classy to call each one by one, but not when the whole of North America is tapped into those calls via the TSN panel. It all feels like a game show and will probably rub a few GMs the wrong way. Anyway, what's done is done.

For everyone saying that the Oilers are going to be a team of the future,it would have more credibility if they would stop finishing last every year.
- VANTEL

Fair enough, I'd also point out to everyone that compares them to Pitt that their rebuilds have been very different. Pitt was able to get high picks, but used them on the most important positions: Fleury(Goalie), Malkin(Center), Crosby(Center), Staal(Center) and they stole Letang and Goligoski for defense with later picks. Edmonton has Eberle(Winger), Hall(Winger), Yakupov(Winger) and RNH(Center).

Centers, D-Men and a goalie are more important than wingers IMO.

I would have done things a little differently with the lottery picks that EDM has had. Eberle was a steal at 22 so I can't argue with that. I would have drafted Tyler Seguin over Hall(Seguin is a winger right now, but has been solid at faceoffs and will eventually move to center which was his position in junior). I agreed with the decision to draft RNH as another great center. This year, I would have traded down to 2 or 3 and drafted Murray or Galchenyuk.

So IMO this core would be better:
Eberle(Winger)
Seguin(Center)
Nugent-Hopkins(Center)
Murray/Glachenyuk(Center/D-Man)

I think people also don't realize that the Penguins had 5 straight years of lottery picks(top 5). Edmonton has only had 3 in a row.

They desperately need to do something with the defense. Salo is not a top 4 guy anymore and I would prefer to have Tanev on the 3rd pairing.

Chicago did it with their bus,t I don't see anyone saying bad things about them.

Ballard was a deal made of desperation. I will be pissed if he is still on he team.

- VANTEL

Doesn't matter, MG would rather try to workout a deal to trade him or even buy him out before he even considers a move like that. He's said it repeatedly.

I'm not going to bad mouth Garrison, however, MOST of those goals with that slap shot came in mid season. Campbell encouraged him to blast away when he got the puck..he finally did, and he was scoring. When it became common knowledge to the rest of the league that Garrison is blasting the puck from the blue line, his productivity went down. Of course add in the screens and deflections needed from his teammates to continue that success, but I'm saying, he caught many by surprise initially when he began to score, and that's now out of the bag. Good player, not 5 mil per worth. His defensive play is IMO ok, again, not top line $ worth.

My thoughts exactly. Garrison has stated he wants to play here, as did Hamhuis. I can see Garrison taking less than market to come here. My guess is 4m per.

His agent has some influence over him and maybe they decided to call each team that he was considering just to let them know and to thank them for their time and offers. It's not an easy decision.

I agree that this is possible. Gillis is definitely not going to overpay with his "MoneyPuck" approach. I just hope we don't turn into TOR fans in here and everyone's on suicide watch on Canada Day.

Supply and demand dictate the Garrison will get paid, where, who knows. I don't follow advanced stats, but what I was pointing out was that the guys who do think Garrison is a good gamble. Not that his goal totals are likely to continue the trend, they specifically note that this is an anomaly, but that his stats on quality of competition etc are favorable. I guess we'll see.

If you believe what's written on "the twitter", Vancouver fans are already on par with Toronto fans for their manic behaviour.

EDIT - I'm going to an all day barbecue with a 20 litre keg of Phillips beer, I'll just make sure not to check what happened until I get home.
