One last thought for the late evening ....with rumors of Kovalchuk being shopped, and the fact that NJ has not signed Salvador, Parise OR Brodeur.....I'm starting to wonder if NJ is SERIOUSLY out of money, as in bankrupt altogether. I know the rumor was that Kovalchuk would go, and Parise would stay, but I'm not seeing that. Besides, I mean, Brodeur? Really? What would it take to keep HIM in Newark? I can't imagine he'd break their bank if they'd want to keep him for what will probably be the last year or two of his career. I just have this feeling they have NO money, as in "less than we do", which is scary...

Its an ugly situation for a very good franchise.. they may be a rival but I hate seeing stuff like this.

I agree...being a resident of NJ, I've always figured that if it's not us sticking it to the Rag$, it might as well be them. It just looks like they are signing anyone who doesn't cost any money- which is the kind of thing you do when either a) like us, you have an ancient building that doesn't provide any revenue, or b) you've basically been told by whoever is running your situation that the cash drawer is empty. I've felt for the past few years that their payroll was WAY too high...their building (inexplicably, in my view) is half empty most nights, no matter what they announce as the attendance figures. It's a bad situation, and it appears to be worse than it looks on the surface. I just can't imagine they'd let Brodeur go without having a legitimate replacement unless they simply CAN'T pay him, at all.

B. Allen should be a must sign, young enough to stay a while an teach an be a part of the future..

Ollie would be a good 2nd line center for now, plus adds another proven veteran to this team

Nabokov needs to use his russian influence an try to convince Semin 1st, or AK47 2nd, to come here and play wing w/Tavares

I feel all the kids should be together in Bridgeport gelling, instead up w/the big club. with injuries thru the year, the kids will have thier chance.

for added toughness, like Winnick, Burish, Carkner to be added, maybe Parros?

Olli played on the Island for a year!!!
- jimmc7722

Is that all it was? Seems so long ago. I do remember that it took Olli about 3/4's of the season to get his game together (he actually got into a fight and) and then he was traded. I wasnt happy that we traded him at the time because I felt Olli had figured it out and would develop into a good player for us.

Agreed on all fronts, except I don't think Nabokov's "Russian influence" really has any pull at all. A large number of teams in this league have at least 1 Russian player.

I was surprised by your post. Jokinen was involved in one of the most infamous Milbury trades of all his infamous trades.

I don't know why most of you are so high on getting him. His best years are by him, and his year with the Rangers scares the hell out of me. Don't want him.

Replacement for PA, points-wise. The actual second line center that we need. He's really the only viable C left out there in free agency, in terms of top-6 guys. Would let Frans play the role he belongs in, as a 3rd line center.

Great idea. Keep JT , Hamonic and Martin then flip the rest of the Islanders for the Devils.

Maybe we make the PO's this yr despite Capt Jack behind the bench.

Heck I'll even pitch in for the buses.

Yeah, I'm not big on Jokinen, either- he's pretty much a one dimensional player at this point. As for the first time we had him....it was the trade that destroyed this franchise, hands down. Going into that next season, we should have had Luongo, Jokinen and Gaborik, if the draft had gone the way I'd have wanted it to (the Heatley argument could be made, of course); instead what we had was a serviceable, 25-30 goal winger who couldn't skate, a goaltender who didn't seem to remember where the goal was, and a uniform with the number 12 on it that didn't need washing after most games. Just an absolute, complete and utter disaster, which couldn't have possibly gone any worse than it did for us....but I digress.

At any rate....get us another solid defenseman, Garth, and I'll call today a win. Anything else will be a big win...

In what way? Or are you being a little sarcastic?

I only said that I liked him when he was an Islander.

I never posted that I wanted the Isles to bring him back.

Actually I'm kind of indifferent about it.

The first part was about your post from yesterday. I thought you either forgot he was on the Islanders back in the day or maybe just suppressed it from your memory...
The second part wasn't directed at you, per se. I've seen a lot of comments the last 2 days in favor of Olli Jokinen. I know we need a 2nd line center, but him?

No one's talking about Jiri Hudler.....I would love to see him on the Island next year.

Your the second one that got that impression. My fault. I didnt make myself clearer in that post. I remember Olli. Actually I thought he was here longer than one yr.

But I do remember him stepping up his game during the last couple of months of the season. Scoring some goals, getting in a fight and playing with a little more fire and grit.

I was looking forward to see how his game carried over to the next season when..... well you know the story.

- Vukota

Yeah, I have a feeling they didn't think he'd ask for THAT much money at the deadline.....plus they still had delusions of making the playoffs at that point. They need to learn that if they have ANY delusions of making the playoffs ANY year, they need to ensure their best goalie plays, every night.....this "let's hope DiPietro is better" cr*p has got to stop....and the "let's leave Poulin/Nilsson in Bridgeport for the playoff push, when our starter is injured and our backup isn't worth dirtying a sweater" nonsense has to end, as well. The best two goalies they have in the organization MUST be the ones they trot out onto the ice on a nightly basis, or else they'll be talking sh*t out their as*es about the playoffs again, as usual.

That said, PA is not worth THAT much money, IMO....he'd have to put together at least a couple of more years like that to bring his value over $4M per, IMO. I'd rather take a shot at someone who performs consistently at a slightly lesser clip than what may be a one hit wonder....especially since, as I said, before that contract runs out, PA would not be on line one, anyway- maybe even this season, if Okposo plays as he is capable of playing.

My wishlist: Hudler, Allen, Prust.

If we get Semin or Kostitsyn, I obviously wouldn't be upset. If we re-sign PaP, I wouldn't be upset. I'm not holding my breath on either of those, though.

If we sign the first 3 players I named, I'd be ecstatic.

Two outta three aint bad either!

Would you be content if we resigned Haley at a lower price over Prust? or Asham?

I've mentioned Asham's name a lot the last couple of days. I obviously prefer Prust, because of his age, but Asham can fight, plays with heart and has a very underrated slap shot. I think he has some years left. One of my buddies knew him pretty good when he played here, hung out with him a couple of times, and said he loved living and playing here, so it's definitely a possibility he comes back.
