no to Kennedy on this team and no to jeffery on the 4th line. we need more grit and sandpaper. go after a guy like Prust or Moen.

I'm just showing what we're working with as of today.

I couldn't say. He stands to make more money in Minnesota, and he stands to make a bit more in Detroit with the same chance of being competitive and here in Pittsburgh he can make money but Shero won't break the bank. Parise will choose and we will find out. I'd love to have him, but I don't want to see this team handcuffed like they were with both Martin/Michalek's contracts. I doubt they move Martin unless they are confident in their own D man or in a trade. Just my 2 cents
- HopintheCordoba

I woulnd't be so sure of that. Detroit's stars are 31yrs old (Zetterberg) and 33yrs od (Datsyuk). Lidstrom is gone as well; That's one heck of a hole on D to be filled. Parise is 27yrs old. If he signs a 8yr deal (until age 35), how much of that will Zetterberg and Datsuyk be around for, playing at an elite level?

I think in the short-term the Red Wings would be quite formidable with Parise (even better w/ Suter as well), but after about 4 yrs, when Zetterberg is 35 and Datsuyk is 37, how is that team going to look?

Do they have any elite talent in the wings that I am unaware of?

Or we could give Tangradi his full season/last shot?

Top five furthest from #NHL cap floor: 1. NAS, $19.2M; 2. PHX, $15.3M; 3. ANA, $14.9M; 4. DAL, $14.5M; 5. COL, $13.5M. capgeek.com/charts_floor.p…

Send Martin to one of these teams for a pick

that is ridiculous! not saying you were wrong for suggesting him, as he is one of the higher profile guys out there right now. living in philly i watch a lot of flyers games, and he is okay, but nothing more. he looked great opposite of a healthy pronger, but then again a lot of guys would. first off, he is going to be incredibly overpaid. secondly, his skill set is average for what he is. but most of all, he literally is the exact opposite of the type of defenseman this team needs. if a team is going to overpay for him, it should be someone like the oilers, who really as of now need that decent puck moving type.
- stayinthefnnet

I agree. I thought, maybe, the Pens could snag him for something like $6M for 2yrs (Ie, $3M/yr Cap Hit) as a short-term stop gap until Despres, Morrow, Dmoulin, etc... develop.

But if he wants Wideman/Wisniewski money for 5/6yrs? No thanks. We don't need Dmen that bad.

I'm with you

I thought this one was a solid deal and somebody we could have targeted:
Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie
COL agrees to terms with Steve Downie on 2 year deal, $2.55M in first year and $2.75M in second. $2.65M AAV.

Downie was a RFA, wasn't he? Not sure Shero would want to mess with all of that for Downie.

Tangradi needs a contract before you slot him anywhere.

That is all he will get tho. If he resigns he will waste away in WB/S or on the fourth with offensive power houses adams and vitale.

I think Shero wants to hold on to him until he can find an adequate replacement. What if the Pens strike out in FA and they've already moved Martin? They have depth yes, but experience in that depth....not so much.

I saw last year too. I'd be happy to dump the guy, but he is a vet with solid credentials. He was bad last year, but the previous year he was quite good....if a bit over-paid. There is a chance he rebounds, and I believe the coach should play a part in that.

Iggy would be a great back up plan....short term of course. What would it take to get him? Though, doesn't look like they're planning on a rebuild just yet.
- madmike71

I would say Iggy + for J Staal would've worked but like you said there is no plan to trade him at this point. If Iggy goes anywhere I would hope for Pitt to play with Cros.

Havent seen anybody pose the question so I guess I will:
Given the recent early exits from the playoffs, if Shero does manage to land Parise and/or Suter(or some other big names via trade)--does this land Bylsma in the hot seat for the upcoming season should the team under-perform?

I think Bylsma needs a better showing this year regardless of what we do in FA.

Dupuis-Crosby-Parise
Kunitz-Malkin-Neal
Cooke-Sutter-Kennedy
Adams-Vitale-Jeffrey

Letang-Orpik
Martin- Suter
Niskanen-Engellend
Despres

Fleury
Vokoun

Say we have 14.5 in space, the bolded are the only unsigned positions.

Figure Niskanen getting 2.5 means we have 12 mill in cap space. If we sign Parise it won't be for less than 7 which takes us to 5.

We could trade Kennedy and that space goes up to 7 which might be enough to sign Suter.

Except then we need to find a 12th forward and we would have no money to upgrade elsewhere or to carry into the season/deadline.

Trade Martin for dirty underwear and we're laughing.

- canadianpenfan

Only thing wrong with this is i believe we can not send Strait or Bortuzzo down to the minors without them having to go through waivers...so if that is true, do you trade them?

Yes it does. and if he doesn't land them and we fail once again Shero and Bylsma are in the hot seat. Cant get kicked out of the playoffs like we have three years in a row with the talent we have to work with. Obviously this is all my opinion.

We don't know if he hasn't or what conversations have happened between Shero and Martin.

The team is tight about leaks, we only really get what they want out there.

Why do you hear Nashville when people talk about Martin? Personally i think he would fit well down there.
