Devils have the room, I just examined it in the previous post. I still think he uses the other offers as leverage. There's probably a 70/30 chance he stays in NJ. If he loses, it's not so much a big loss in terms of on-ice production, but more or less his legacy as a Devil.

On Gio, from TG:

I don’t know the money details on Gionta’s contract yet, but it is a two-year contract that is a one-way deal in the first season and a two-way deal in the second.

So that means it's less that 925k.

True, and you're probably right. Just still weird to think about Marty on another team.

Well, if Bernier signed for 750k, then I think it's safe to assume that all the other fourth liners signed for around there, including Harrold.

So let's say 800k for four players...3.2 million and then Janssen's 575k. That's 3.775 in five players. We still have 24 million to work with up to the cap limit, and probably around 18-20 with an internal budget. That's enough to sign Parise, Brodeur, Fayne, a back-up goaltender, and a third line winger. I'm going to assume that our internal cap the actual cap subtracted by the difference between Kovalchuk's salary and his cap hit.

That's more than enough. I don't know why, but I just got this eery feeling Fayne is going to get an offer sheet.

- _Zippy_

At this point, let Pesonen, Teddy, or Sykora fight for that 3rd line spot.

If fayne gets an expensive offer sheet, I say take it. I like fayne as much as the next guy, but we have a bunch of good young blueline prospects. If money is as tight as it seems, we can't afford to overpay Fayne.

Over $5,046,585 to $6,728,781 - 1st round pick, 2nd, 3rd

Yup. I still don't see what Marty might want but money. He's had a successful enough career I doubt he's trying to get one more cup. His family has settled in NJ, his legacy is in NJ, and he doesn't make florida or tampa a contender.

Some teams do when they want to try to screw you over ala San Jose/Hjalamarsson and then SJ signed Niemi.

They are rare, but with the weak free agent class this year that's getting thinner by the day, I could see one happening. Not likely though.

and Tomas Vanek is the only other one that comes to mind. I highly doubt anybody would offer sheet Fayne let alone any other player.

I know, it was just this feeling I was getting. A team that might want him would look at NJ struggling to get ZP and Marty and try to either make them commit money to Fayne and take ZP or Marty, or just take Fayne. He's injured at the moment too, but yeah, it's highly doubtful.

forget this idiot! I'm so sick of us arguing back and forth with morons. If we don't like what they say, then don't respond to them. Stop wasting comments on people that don't deserve the time of day on this blog. This is a Devils blog for a reason. We know who we are, who our team is, and what we stand for.. so its unnecessary to defend ourselves and correct the idiots that show up.
but then again, it can be fun ... but ignorant people will remain ignorant no matter how much logic and fact is thrown at them.

Personally, I think that Marty may look at offers but give Devils time to figure it out. I don't see him expressing his loyalty throughout his career in more than just words and bolting on July 1st. If a week after free agency opens the Devils situation is still up in the air, then he may go elsewhere. I could be wrong, and I'm sure what Zippy said has some truth with the alimony payments, there I really don't see much appealing about going to Florida or San Jose or Toronto at this point in his career.
- rmdevil313

After all the stuff he said about Zach being the priority and about him negotiating himself...now he goes and gets an agent. If he leaves it is for money. Knew we could lose Parise but if Marty signs somewhere else I'm going to be pissed.

How many years on Carter?

EDIT: Never mind, found it.

Two years for the entire fourth line. NICE. That could be a massive bargain.

I'm pretty shocked that Marty would rather play for a different team than just retire if the Devils can't sign him. Hopefully he stays in NJ though, hate to see him play for a different team in his last year in the NHL

I'd say Lamoriello is one damn good negotiator. I think they could all make their case for 1 million.

i've actually heard that as well...friend of mine has a father who runs a restaurant in newark where the devils players eat alot and from what i was told brodeur is a pretty big douche
- Xnightwish

yea. when his kids were playing, he was outside with the 2nd wife and her family while the mother was inside watching the kids play. also one thing that always stuck out in my mind was a time his kid wanted a roll of tape and he yelled at him for asking

On the last part, he's a dad.

I'd be pissed at my wife if I had to pay her 500k a year too.

Devils announced signings of Carter, Gio, Bernier, Harrold, and Janssen.

So that means that we just need to fill out the goaltending position. Either sign a third line left wing or fill the spot from within and either sign Parise or sign a top six winger.

- _Zippy_

i think it will be best to bring up teddy or pesonen for the 3rd line spot, teddy needs to show something or i have a feeling he will be moved

brodeur will be back and he is just looking out for the case if we can't sign him for whatever reason, if he goes to FA he will get offers and he prob won't want to deal with them so his agent will but the devils would have the last say, he has only had to worry about nj and never had to worry about FA

i am on the fence with the Crawford rumor, he isn't the best but isn't the worst but he would be able to step in and be a number 1 in case our prospects don't work out

or Hamilton...

as of right now it seems that Phoenix is better off than NJ.

NHL already said that in addition to losing Brodeur and Parise that if they have to take over the team they would trade Kovy too.

- JVince11

the NHL said that? I'm sure you have a quote to back that up
