this is BULLLSHHHHHIT! are you kidding me?? Ownership issues?? Get your heads out of your asses! This is a freaking NHL franchise that just went to the Finals! We have young talent, we have 2 all-star LWs .. one of which we should REALLY be trying to sign with that 28 MIL CAP SPACE and quite being concerned with 900k players. We have arguably the best goalie ever and he's not going to retire with us because you idiots can't work out some financial garbage.

this is a shame. just like game 6. This is a freaking disaster and a joke and disrespect to the players, and the fans. I can't even stand this that all of this crap is because of stupid owners being thick skulled selfish idiots. Dollars and cents. It always comes down to dollars and cents. And it always comes down to people being greedy. Its a business after all.. who really cares about loyalty or if you win or lose, just get what you can and play the game right? what a joke.

Yeah, possibly, but I'm betting he won't. And I never said he was gone! If you go back to my first posts, you'll see that I was simply implying that Zach would probably not re-sign so close to FA. He would most likely at the very least like to see what the offers that were going to no doubt pour in would look like before doing anything. I believe I even stated that he may indeed re-sign, just not likely before July 1st.

You all responded with I don't know Lou, talks haven't started yet, along with a bunch of rhetoric regarding how much I didn't know because I'm not a bonafied Devils fan or from NJ. I think that about sums it up.

Never said I absolutely without a doubt knew anything, speculated on what seemed fairly evident at the time and turns out my speculation wasn't too far off, as the same for many others who have been saying the same things.

So as far as Zippy stating my speculation was disproven, well that's obviously false.

forget this idiot! I'm so sick of us arguing back and forth with morons. If we don't like what they say, then don't respond to them. Stop wasting comments on people that don't deserve the time of day on this blog. This is a Devils blog for a reason. We know who we are, who our team is, and what we stand for.. so its unnecessary to defend ourselves and correct the idiots that show up.
but then again, it can be fun ... but ignorant people will remain ignorant no matter how much logic and fact is thrown at them.

He's already got a mit full of rings....he wants to get paid.
- BlowMonkey

Shouldn't he be already sitting on a mountain of cash. I understand a guy like Parise leaving, but that would be a richard move for MB. Time to think about legacy.

He's gotta pay his wife 500k per year till 2020. Think that has a ton to do with it.

It's not like he only makes money through his sports contract. If you make a lot of money you just don't sit on the money, you invest it. I doubt that all of his money is just sitting in the bank making interest.

I know, but I'm sure he would want to live comfortably. If he can squeeze 6 million dollars out of a team for next year, deduct taxes and expenses, and you can probably bet the rest will be used towards the alimony.

That's still about four million he has to pay to her, and he's still got to take care of his kids and live comfortably.

EXACTLY! This is all layers and layers of bullcrap.. from the top down. sickens me. You want fans to come to games yet we have to deal with so much nonsense. ALWAYS losing our stars (except Elias and Marty). the only star we kept was Kovalchuk.. and that was cuz Vanderbeek decided to jeopardize our future, the future of our CAPTAIN, and spit in the NHL's face. KUDOS TO YOU Mr. Vanderbeek! YES, fans should show up. But man they sure make it difficult. Our team wins in spite of the league and its ridiculous rules and, in spite of ownership... which hasn't been respectable since the deceased John McMullen.

According to TG, the Devils have the space to fit both Parise and Brodeur into this "internal budget" but Parise will come first, then Brodeur.

I need a more reputable source than that. Leafs fans have a better understanding of the situation.

I posted in I think Mussa's blog, but nevertheless. As of right now, it looks like:

xxx-Zajac-Kovalchuk
Elias-Henrique-Zubrus
xxx-Josefson-Clarkson
Carter-xxx-Bernier

Greene-Fayne
Volchenkov-Zidlicky
Tallinder-Larsson
xxx

For the first line, obviously it's going to be Parise. If not, Lou might have to dig into the UFA market to find an acceptable second line guy (Whitney, Hudler, etc.). He'd also have to either resign Poni or Sykora or sign an a good third liner. The fourth line is pretty easy to fill out. On defense, we'd have to sign a 7th defensemen or let one of the young guys step in.

Goaltending is where it gets tricky. Either it's Marty-Hedberg, UFA-Hedberg, Goalie from trade-Hedberg, or a totally new tandem. Based on what TG said, it's likely we will be able to fill out the roster pretty easily, if we are supposedly able to fit in both Parise and Brodeur.

Devils announced signings of Carter, Gio, Bernier, Harrold, and Janssen.

So that means that we just need to fill out the goaltending position. Either sign a third line left wing or fill the spot from within and either sign Parise or sign a top six winger.

Personally, I think that Marty may look at offers but give Devils time to figure it out. I don't see him expressing his loyalty throughout his career in more than just words and bolting on July 1st. If a week after free agency opens the Devils situation is still up in the air, then he may go elsewhere. I could be wrong, and I'm sure what Zippy said has some truth with the alimony payments, there I really don't see much appealing about going to Florida or San Jose or Toronto at this point in his career.

Well, if Bernier signed for 750k, then I think it's safe to assume that all the other fourth liners signed for around there, including Harrold.

So let's say 800k for four players...3.2 million and then Janssen's 575k. That's 3.775 in five players. We still have 24 million to work with up to the cap limit, and probably around 18-20 with an internal budget. That's enough to sign Parise, Brodeur, Fayne, a back-up goaltender, and a third line winger. I'm going to assume that our internal cap the actual cap subtracted by the difference between Kovalchuk's salary and his cap hit.

That's more than enough. I don't know why, but I just got this eery feeling Fayne is going to get an offer sheet.
