6 mil for a 3 time s-cup winner and a finalist this year? Someone will pay Brodeur that for a year of his services, Brodeur was great thru the playoffs....
- MindFr3eak

He was "good" in the playoffs but only had a decent year at best with his 2.41GAA and a .908 save%. Out of goalies who played at least 25 games last year he was #35 in save% and #16 in GAA. He wants how much money again? He's lucky he's even offered a contract worth 3mil a year in my books.

or Hamilton...

as of right now it seems that Phoenix is better off than NJ.

NHL already said that in addition to losing Brodeur and Parise that if they have to take over the team they would trade Kovy too.

- JVince11

the nhl also said that they feel the devils will be able to sort things out and that they don't believe they will need to take them over and you can find numerous quotes and reports

but i have yet to see 1 credible quote saying kovy would have to be moved

my worry is that we lose brodeur and parise and we're handcuffed into not being able to make ANY moves for decent players a la the blues last year...our fanbase is thin enough as it is..this will NOT help attract new fans
- Xnightwish

Sad part is we could bring in Crosby, Staal and Nash and still wouldn't bring in the fans. (I tried but the joke was bad )........The Devils were at their best when they built from within and I think the Devils need to start retooling their farm system and start trading older/pricer players for younger players with upside. Clarkson should be the next to go. He had a career year and won't come close to that again, trade him while his value is high and he has 1yr left on his contract (he might want a raise from his 2.66mil a yr he makes).

If Marty really is on his way out...I would LOVE the Leafs to grab him for one year...

That's because Marty wants $6m. Which is retarded.

Has to pay 500k in alimony till 2020. He wants this next contract to get him to at least 2018 if not 2020. Where else is he going to get that income without going broke?

Im like flabbergasted your all this shocked, especially about Parise. Ill give you Brodeur, but that guys always struck me as a Richard. Didnt he cheat on his wife for her sister? Isnt he married to the sister now.

Idk if its just me or what, but if I was with a franchise for my entire career, the chances of me going somewhere else at 40+ years old are 0 and negative 6. If its me and i know the teams struggling to sign Parise, sign me up for a mill. Less if need be. Especially if were coming off a Stanley Cup run. Im doing anything to help out the team thats paid me plenty of money over my career to get us back to that same spot next season for one last chance at a cup.

But hey, maybe Im just cut from a different cloth then the "great" Martin Brodeur.

Well I hope he likes Toronto...it is very nice there, I'll probably go back there next year myself and see how his new jersey is fitting him (you know, since he's a fat bast@rd)

Professional athletes will always want the money and I don't blame them. They only have a short (well not Marty) window to make as much as they can so they will take the money and run most of the time. He's no different.

Simple logic, like Parise testing the market. IF the NHL were to take control, do you think they would keep an 11M/year contract on the books? Would you?

Well I was mocked and ridiculed and told I had no idea what I was talking about when myself and others merely suggested this was going to be the outcome. So unfortunately the Devils fans that don't deserve any flack are forced to hear a little pay back along with the ones that do deserve it. Especially the all knowing Devils guru rmdevil313...

It was fairly obvious to the majority of fans outside of NJ that the writing was on the wall, even considering Lou's long time methods of dealing with UFA's.

- MnGump

We didn't say he wasn't going to UFA because even if he does he could very well stay a devil, using it to add $ whereas you just came in here saying he is gone and had no idea how Lou works

For all we know he could sign today

I think he would want to go to a contender, perhaps Chicago, if the Cap room works. Still hope NJ finds a way to keep him.

Florida and Tampa seem like the only plausible solutions. Everyone else is set in terms of goaltending in the East. Out west it's probably Chicago and Edmonton and you would be hard pressed to argue that those are more enticing than NJ. I could see the Islanders offering him a poopload of money too.

Yeah, possibly, but I'm betting he won't. And I never said he was gone! If you go back to my first posts, you'll see that I was simply implying that Zach would probably not re-sign so close to FA. He would most likely at the very least like to see what the offers that were going to no doubt pour in would look like before doing anything. I believe I even stated that he may indeed re-sign, just not likely before July 1st.

You all responded with I don't know Lou, talks haven't started yet, along with a bunch of rhetoric regarding how much I didn't know because I'm not a bonafied Devils fan or from NJ. I think that about sums it up.

Never said I absolutely without a doubt knew anything, speculated on what seemed fairly evident at the time and turns out my speculation wasn't too far off, as the same for many others who have been saying the same things.

So as far as Zippy stating my speculation was disproven, well that's obviously false.

Tampa has Lindback, Garon and Tokarski. Florida will probably go with Clemmer and Markstrom.

Marty was paid under market value his whole career to stay with the Devils and helped build a winning franchise. He always said he took less money so they could have a better team. He didn't see Kovalchuk taking less money. Parise doesn't seem to be taking less money.

Maybe early negociations went sour, maybe Lamoriello low balled Marty or is waiting on Parise to even make an offer. I could see a lot of reasons why Brodeur would want to test the UFA market.

No your, exact words were that they would have started talking already if they were going to talk. There was nothing about him being guaranteed to re-sign, but keep changing the story.
