Hockey Buzz Eklund ‏@Eklund

If Marty Brodeur were to test the market" it would be hard to imagine the size of the truck the hawks would back up to pay him for 1 year."

His save percentage has declined the last 4 years. I don't see them backing up the truck(4-6 million?) Do any of you?? Al? JJ?

- jimmy33

Actually I do. He is still good.
The playoff was an excellent showing for him to prve he still ahd some in the tank.

The team working to acquire him would have to fell they needed a goalie for this upcoming season and that was theri primary focus, and had the Cap Space.

NOT TRYING to start a protracted debate but...

All this Bernier talk to me also doesn't serve the "now" urgency I hear from the fan base.
I saw Bernier awhile back when he was in the Q and have seen him in the bigs since, and it really is nice to see the upside in these type guys, and he has waited patiently...the Kings really planned and announced that Bernier was going to pushed more into the plan, but he played 16 games, 5 wins from the 25 (11 wins) from the year before.
Of course that was due to their horrendous first half.

No matter what anyone here thinks of Crawford ability to take the Hawks to drink from Lord Stanley's Cup, I don't think this organization would ever venture into the trade Crawford and replace with Bernier waters.

The kid hasn't had to shoulder of full load of games since 2009-10 in Lewiston in the QMJHL.
He has NEVER seen a NHL playoff game from anywhere but the bench.

So I don't think a team that has any delusions it can win now or soon trades for him for and thinks he is even ready to play that many games.

Not saying that there is strong chance he succeeds as a starter.

i think that long term deal Qucik signed proably ahs him thinking he isn't gonna get a chance for a heavy work load in Los Angeles.

Gotta take out #3 then, because then we'd have no defensemen. And Olli Jokinen is the exact opposite attitude this team needs, guy is a cancer.
- rollpards19

I thought the same thing, I think I just threw his name out there because he could be a true 2C. But you're right, I would not want him in the locker room. And question about Smith, if we trade for him, is he our 2C? I would prefer to move Kane back to a wing.

Didn't know that about the band. Who were the hosts on Shindig and Hullabaloo? You weren't one of those guys dancing in the sports jacket behind Leslie Gore were you? Who the F was her hairdresser?

You gotta love those thin ties though. I had a few clip-ons back in the day,

I'm fine with that as well.. Hammer isn't great and isn't bad.. I'll take him over Suter from a simple Price and contract length aspect.

Are Saad and Denault contributing pieces on the next SC championship team here - or by the time they get here, will the window on this team be closed?
- StLBravesFan

They are part of a framework plan that says continue to re-stock for the futre years and not implusively react, the Detroit template.

LOL, my dad would look at us in disgust and just shake his head.

If it is not already, Kenesky's should be a historical landmark for Hamilton.

- djd

Hamilton will close up before Kenesky's does. Right behind the store is an old 2 storey brick house that used to be crammed with hockey sticks - basement to attic. Couldn't even move in there for sticks - CCM, Victoriaville, Hespeler - you name it they had every stick known to man. The Russians would come in and buy thousands at a time for their touring teams. House is still there - I will ask if they still own it next time I go in

I don't think that he has quite the skill level to play 2C, but we did just have Marcus Kruger there, so who knows. And I like Kane on the wing a lot more too

Was kinda hoping Schneider was gonna go unsigned into the UFA period so the Hawks would make an offer and if not get him, at least Richard the Canucks over...

You guys could always consider the Thomas option. I'm sure he'll be checking out of the mental ward right as you're gearing up for a run (if Crawford/Emery get you there)...

I understand some other teams would, but would the Hawks pay that much? I can see 4 but not 6. The Hawks have other areas of need that must be addressed and upgraded. If Brodeur wants a fourth ring maybe he takes a bit less to come here.

Gillis may have (frank)ed himself over by signing Schneider. He might be stuck with over $9 million worth in cap hits for goalies, unless he's willing to take a bad contract in return for Luongo.

The GM that gives Gillis anything of value for Luongo is out of their mind.

Hammer treats the puck like a hand grenade in his own end with out Campbell, only blocks shots, constantly looses forwards who put in sitters from right outside the blue paint, zero point shot threat, little physicality and substandard gap closing ability

Lots of reasons to unload that contract while they can still get value. Different system he is probably more successful but doesn't fit right now with the Hawks and Suter makes them measurably better and I'm thinking more of a 6-6.5 hit not the 7 that everyone is throwing out there.

The funniest thing about the Lu situation is that Schneider may not be that good !! Gillis gave this guy 12 Million dollars and he's never been the #1 goalie !! hahahahahahhahahaha. He didnt look great against te Kings this year in the playoffs , He didnt look great against the Hawks two years ago in the playoffs , he may be no good at all. No one is going to give Vancouver anything except bad contracts for Lu.

(Yes , Id take Lu on the Hawks for Montador , Frolik , and Beach)

Agreed... The market for Luongo is so small to begin with. Most teams are set. Then throw into the equation... he has 10 friggin years left on a monster cap hit, he isn't the best goalie on his team nor will he start, the other goalie they have just got locked up for 4 years- he isn't going anywhere, and he has not played very well at all on the big stage in the NHL when it has mattered most.

Just who is going to take him? Florida.. Why? Tallon isn't stupid. The only saving grace for Gillis at this point is the Cap floor and how many teams are nowhere near it right now. Still don't see it.

I was just giving full disclosure , yes Gillis painted himself in the corner and yes Lu only gets moved for some garbage talent and bad contract combo.

Only way I do it is Montador, Frolik, Olesz for Lu, Gragnani, and another UFA to be in 2 days.
