I would agree with that. I simply didn't take anything from what Toews said about Kane, that's all. I thought it was a little odd that he's only texted Kane and apparently hasn't spoken with him directly (odd in the sense that it didn't keep up the PR facade). You're right, he didn't say Kane is an awful person or anything. I thought his comments were just "medium." - flahawkfan
This summer Kane is in Chgo and parts unknown...Toews up North for most part.
I think safe to say that mostly all players keep touch in the summer through texting.

If Marty Brodeur were to test the market" it would be hard to imagine the size of the truck the hawks would back up to pay him for 1 year."
His save percentage has declined the last 4 years. I don't see them backing up the truck(4-6 million?) Do any of you?? Al? JJ? |

I cannot see Brodeur leaving New Jersey. I cannot see New Jersey dumb enough to want Crawford. I just really think the Hawks are only going to do as little as possible and wait until next summer to try to become dominant once again. The labor situation will be much more clear, and teams will have an idea what phase two of the "New NHL" is going to look like. The Hawks have become very conservative since the salary cap purge because I think they are very afraid of repeating the salary mess that they were in after winning the Stanley Cup. Unfortunately that means first round playoff losses and lots of complaining on message boards. |

Agree Al, and it really is disappointing that the two are really not as close as the marketing scheme would suggest. |

Why? They just are two totally different people who happened to come up together. And I guarantee its tough for Toews to look at Kane's immaturity and really want to be close to the guy |

Okay, but if I had a true "friend" who got hit as hard as Kane did by that Madison story, I would call him and not just text and say, "hang in there." That's all. It's a long way from the buddies they're portrayed as in the marketing BS (which I expected given their very different attitudes). |

I just tweeted ....
@AlCimaglia
To consider Brodeur signing in Chgo requires an epiphany that a goalie is worth $5 mill. A break away from Det/Chgo model.

Haha. Epiphany may be too mild a descriptor.

Well a better relationship might correlate to a better effort on the ice. But it still is disappointing because of the picture painted for the kids in city who look up to them believing they are best friends when really thats not the case. |

yeah..its a good year to be a free agent-and a bad year to be a needy team. there's going to be some crazy reactionary signings after suter and parise sign.
I like suter-no way his play justifies being a 6-8 mil skater though. - miked23
Don't know about Suter - whether he is or isn't worth it, whether the Hawks should get him or not - but let's remember:
While we keep saying this guy's not worth it and that guy's not worth it and the Hawks will have to overpay - if they don't overpay, this year's team will be a lot like last year's team with different furniture. |

Theres no real number one they are all solid 3/4 defensemen. - _Zippy_
Yeah except the kid that won the trophy...at this point there are plenty teams that just never were able to develop quality defenders, so you get a basic group you sort of try and play at their strengths.
I think when I see older defenseman still getting 2 mil and 2 yr deals makes me wonder....
I bet they try an address the centre ice position AFTER the earlier UFA frenzy ends, wading through the veteran there trying to make the fit.

Mark Spector Sports@SportsnetSpec
The one contender out there who needs a goalie is CHI. Predict they go hard after Brodeur, deal R.Emery, N.Hjalmarsson for cap space.

Doubt it, Brodeur as always had a great relationship with Lamoreillo. He's always represented himself in the past. If he's hired an agent it's because a) NJ is moving in a different direction, or b) he is going to field offers from other teams. It's probably a combination of both. - djd
The Devils are flat f'n broke. Jeffrey Winnik bought the team before Wall Street and Lehman Bros. turned into a mess.
Lou L. still loves Marty but has probably told him that if he wants to keep playing hockey it will have to be elsewhere.
Another financial fiasco on Bettman's record. |

Al. you are just ruining it for all the people who believe in sunshine, lollipops and rainbows...........
My bet is that Toews doesn't spend one extra minute than he has to with Kane. And that has no bearing on anything. |

Feels more and more to me like there is no real plan beyond getting Suter. None of us will hear anything about that until late Saturday or Sunday.
Sadly, I'm preparing for "we like our team". - Return of the Roar
I'm with you on the concept that there will be no significant changes occurring to the Hawk roster. |

@TSNBobMcKenzie: COL agrees to terms with Steve Downie on 2 year deal, $2.55M in first year and $2.75M in second. $2.65M AAV.
It's gonna be slim pickings on Sunday |
