Flyer fan, what do you think. For a first line centerman who would you take the gamble on.

1) Kadri- never given the proper chance at a full season, potential

2) JVR- overshadowed by the centerman in philly, potential

3) Connolly

4) Steckel

5) Lombo

6) Bozak, acquiring 47 pts as a 1st line centerman with kessel and loops, acquiring 32 pts in 2010-2011 season, and is 26 of age. Who belongs on the third line

Monarchs East

Haven't heard that name in a long time...

Monarchs was the name of the Junior team in Rochester when I lived there. A few guys from my High School team played for them. Don't think they exist anymore though. But they were fun to watch (if you didn't mind tons of hitting and more than a few fights).

JVR has the offensive skills but needs work on his two way game/defense.
He never got a look at center in Philly, but it might worth trying him with Kessel.
JVR likes to have the puck rather then play without it, and is fast enough to keep up with Kessel. Should be interesting. The rest of them you would know better then me.

what was your take on the Flyer's draft?
a bit unconventional it seemed to me.

See at least you understand that JVR never was given a proper chance at center in philly and could work between kessel and lupul. The rest are garbage as a 1st line center except kadri who still was never given a proper chance at a full season, yet alone on the wing or as a centerman.

He was stuck behind a lot of guys at center and seemed to make the transition to wing.

I think one of the (lesser) reasons they traded him was he didn't have great chemistry with Giroux; they both excel when carrying the puck.

JVR is horrible defensively. That's why I question even giving him look at center.

He couldn't even handle two-way duties on the wing.

JVR's defensive play leaves a lot to be desired. That would be my biggest concern with him as a center. Assuming he can improve to at least be decent defensively (he's not there now), he could do well at center.

Not bad for now but as Bill pointed out 2 of them we may never see for various reasons.

Time will tell.

But for a kid his size with the skill set he can show and bring he has to learn to use it more often, it can take his game to a whole different level if he can

Who knows the goalie is 5 plus years away at the earliest. Other may help but it's just way too soon to have an idea.

For how shallow this FA pool is it should still be exciting to see where Parise lands.

he didn't merit it considering his poor d coverage and untimely giveaways. if he can improve there, he might thrive. you got the better plyr, so I would be very pleased if I was a leafs fan.

I think Detriot will land Suter. They need him more than Parise in my opinion. I think the best bet will be NJ. Can't see the Flyers making it happen unless they bring in a cheaper, proven replacement for Carle...which would be tricky with this free agent pool.

My opinion, JVR is a north south player. When he's on his game, he's best driving to the net. He's going to a new team, and there is going to be pressure on him. I think it would be a mistake to throw him in a new position.

Schenn could turn out to be a great player, but he's not the right guy to replace Carle. Other possibility is they are still hoping to get someone else or they feel some guys are ready to assume more responsibility this year.
- funmaster18

that's just my point...you can't think of it as Schenn replacing Carle. He's not replacing anyone.

Leino at Center in Buffalo.

I wouldn't have high hopes for him at Center.

Due to the player taking a stick to the eye, which can happen to any player. And not due a poor decision the Flyers made.

I like the fact that the Flyers aren't going to hesitate to make a move if it's one they think get's them closer to a Cup, even if there is potential issues in doing so down the line.

Would you say the Pronger trade was a failure?
