Ryan's contract is more than fair.
A 40+ goal potential power froward with his track record? Absolutely fair. Players like that don't grown on trees. - LordStanley88
I don't mind making a deal for Ryan as long as it isn't more than 1 roster player, prospect, and a 2nd round pick. Do not trade multiple roster players for this guy.

Riiiiiiiiiiiigghhhhttt, so why add a guy that has essentially stopped playing after he got paid, and take away 6.7MM of Cap Space for J-Bo. - Flyers1218
i see your point, but the sarcasm is not appreciated. |

What makes JVR a higher valued asset? Wouldn't a potential top pairing defenseman be more valuable? - Flyers1218
most scouts would rate schenn as a stay at home compliment, 2nd pairing guy as his ceiling. not a dynamic, puck moving point producer. he'd actually be a good partner for carle if he could cut down on mistakes. |

I had thought about that actually. He is apparently asking for a two year deal though. |

Schenn could very well become a Regher type top-line shutdown blue-liner IMO.
I think he has a higher ceiling than you're giving him credit for. |

I still think they need:
-A front-line winger to pair Giroux and take some pressure off of him (opts. Ryan, Nash, Jagr, Doan, etc.)
-A d-man that can eat 22+ minutes (opt. Carle, Garrison, trades)
-A 4th line center that can WIN faceoffs and kill penalties (McClement, Moore, etc.)
-A tough, grinding bottom 6 forward (Prust wold be ideal IMO)
-Back-up goalie - LordStanley88
Accomplishing that would be a home run, and I agree those are all worthy goals, but not sure if all can be done this summer.
I think Jake Voracek can play top line minutes with G if they don't get another sniper or resign Jags. OK his shooting needs work but he is a demon with puck possession and has size and speed.
As to the D, waiting to go after a Timonen replacement next season makes a lot of sense, there may be more options. If they have a chance to get someone sooner, Homer will go for it, he is not shy about it.
I do expect some tweaking on the bottom six. Prust is a dik but I'm sure I would love him as a Flyer.
A decent back up goalie is a priority now. |

I haven't noticed this patience you speak of...
To clarify though, I'm a big supporter of Homer. - LordStanley88
The fact that he hasn't traded for anybody's rights and hasn't blown everything up in pursuit of Suter/Weber/Ryan/Nash etc yet speaks to a bit of a sea-change in his approach.
I'm 100% behind Homer's overarching vision, his adherence to the Flyer identity and his ability to evaluate and acquire talent -- however, it's been very hard to support his cap-bungling, poor asset management, and repeated mistakes in the details during his watch (Hyka, contract limits, tagging space, Lilja's multi-year deal triggering 35+, etc).
From where I'm standing though, it seems like he's learned some valuable lessons and the team will be better off for it in the future. |

Trading JVR for Luke Schenn was not a calculate risk. - MJL
I agree, it was just a poor value deal. if carle is leaving, wouldn't you rather have not made that deal and be willing to move other assets to get a better replacement? we need a puck mover as it is already. I know it's more of a risk, but schenn, while a nice prospect, is not exactly the guy who would make our mix work in the absence of carle. |

didn't aucoin make comments similar to those made by derek morris about bryz? i could be totally wrong, but for some reason i feel as if that was the case
that's my main reservation about him on a one year deal, if true of course - FlyerMike18
