Bill Sweatt, Blake Wheeler, Tim Erixon, and there's more. This isn't the first, and won't be the last. I'd like to see something like the player has to sign where he's drafted or wait until he's 23 until he can sign elsewhere. Earn your stripes before you start calling your shots. |

I (frank)ing hate that kid, and I haven't seen him play already. To me, it was the douchebag thing to do to de-register from Wisconsin so he can screw over Anaheim to choose the team he wants. It's not like it's about the money, there's no bidding war, it's just him being selfish. - _Zippy_

does anahiem get a compensation pick?
a player should play for the team he was drafted unless he is traded, shouldnt be allowed to decide where he wants to play like that, it doesnt show a good president to do what he did
so (frank) him |

I think we'll see something like this. I don't think Salvador will be back. Hopefully Teddy can make the team and better than he was last year. Even with these signings (Parise @7, Brodeur @4, Fayne @2), we still have 10.5 mil in space. We're going to need that next year when Zajac, Zubrus, Clarkson are UFAs and Henrique and Josefson are RFAs. Yea Elias will probably go from 6mil to 2yrs/6mil, and our goalie will cost who knows what, but we'll still need this space. Maybe Lou signs someone in addition to Parise. .. hopefully we have Zach next year.

To me, you should be required to play with your team. Or, if they want to give the players some rights, they should compensate the team, but not by giving them like a distant third/fourth round pick.
I don't know, I just think that they should be required to sign a contract with the team that drafted them. I have no problem with the team that drafted a player to trade him. That seems right to me. |

If this happens there is no protection for the player. Quite frankly, the players make a fraction of what the organizations make and should have more ability to pick and chose what they want rather than being owned by the sports team.
Being a professional athlete is comparable to being a slave. Yes, athletes make considerable amounts of money but once their physical ability diminishes they are no longer needed. Also, most athletes dedicate their entire life to being an athlete so after professional sports they do not have the necessary skills to make more money (this problem is a lot worse in football when you have 20-30 guys per team who make league minimum and could be cut at any time). Players are put up to the auction block like in slave trades and are at the beck and call of their owners. Yes, being an athlete is the dream of many but the choices they get in their careers are extremely limited. This kid can make a choice for himself and I support it although I don't agree with how he burned the bridges in the process. |

I think he would love to take a bargain deal, but as someone mentioned before, he still has to pay his ex something absurd like 500k a year. Plus taxes, he'll need a pretty decent size to break even. |

i was out for dinner last night and met with a old hs buddy and he works at the same school as brodeurs daughter, he was saying brodeur looked soooo tired picking her up, almost like he didnt have much energy
that is kinda why i am hoping we dont go with a brodeur/moose combo, id like a brodeur/younger goalie combo but now there is vry few goalies left on the market

This next contract will be to pay off the next three or four years of alimony, or I would assume that he'd do that. |

Most, if not all players are tired after 100+ games, but he was also probably our best player in the finals. I do agree, Marty/Moose isn't the best combo, but there are some better goalies that might be available next season. |

Thank you Adrian Peterson for that crazy thought. Pretty sure slaves did not get pensions, healthcare, workout facilities and other programs that sports leagues have to help with transition after their playing days are done. If a player can not put some of the minumum salaries they make which are anywhere from 250-500k then they are freakin stupid. Also I don't think the owners whip the players after a loss, but you never know. |

facebook ding dong said Crosby took a discount to resign for 8.7.
what kind of a discount? 1mil? he's 800k from being over OV's ridiculous cap hit.
His deal takes him to 37 or 38.
HE WAS OUT 101 games over 2 seasons with concussion/concussion-like symptoms!
does he deserve a cap hit of 10mil per for 12 years? I mean the sky's the limit really.. but this is a huge deal for a huge player. Whats league max? I don't think Pitt took the injury into consideration as much as the reward for having a healthy Crosby, captain, face of the league/franchise, revenue booster, and rightfully so. Still, its not like he took a 3mil discount or anything. Plus its front-loaded, i'm sure he's getting PLENTY of that massive deal in the first 5 years or whatever. He's getting paid just fine.
Your thoughts? |

There is certainly a risk, but you have to take it if you want him long term. You have to show commitment to that sort of player.
