Question: Is anyone else excited about the prospects of having Jake Gardiner and Morgan Rielly control our back end for the next decade?

Next Milan Lucic?

Hopefully
Getting progressively better too....

Conversely, anyone hear something about the Ruperts' father stating that one wouldn't show up to (Leafs) camp, without the other being invited?

I don't recall him saying he prefers north american players...rather players that play a north american style...

Jake Gardiner still needs a lot of work.

I hope Leafs fans realize this.

Because I'm not willing to sift through 100,000 posts calling for him to be tarred and feathered when the kid struggles through a sophomore slump in February.

I don't think anyone thinks it'll all be smooth sailing...I was just commenting on the prospect of both having franchise dmen potential.

Not sure he will have a sophomore slump.

Jake got progressively better as the season wore on. Surprising to me, since he never played that many games in a season prior to last season.

Making the referance that the Leafs had zero Ontario players contradicts what you just said

If it didn't matter to you, then why bother even posting an irrelevant stat?

- faceto27

Aye carumba, pointing out a stat is merely pointing out a stat.

I'm not going to start a circular argument and I'm now leaving this alone after this post, I explained clearly in my last comment what I meant and I feel about a player's nationality.

Finished.

everyone looks at his points last year and says "off year" but his board work and detail work was still very very very good

Agreed. He's also gotten progressively better in every level of hockey he's ever played.

But even if he does slump next year (as expected with most sophmores), I wouldn't give up on him given the potential he's shown.

Agreed. I think it's very telling to be a + player on an off year when you only contribute 7 goals and 21 assists...

He's no doubt in my mind a complete hockey player....maybe the most complete hockey player on our team.
