“@DarrenDreger: Expect the Penguins to announce Sidney Crosby's contract extension on Sunday. Over $100 million dollars with an AAV of close to $9 mil per.”
- funmaster18

Would you pair him with schenn?
- JoeRussomanno

Not sure. Off the top of my head...

Suter/Coburn
Meszaros/Grossman
Timonen/Schenn

in no particular order

Yup, most likely. Penguins were on the verge of going bankrupt not long ago, and now this. Unreal. A franchise player like Crosby, and a new building will do that.

Why couldn't the Flyers have had their season from hell in 04-05?

- PLindbergh31

That was everyone's (non) season from hell . Pens benefited from another weighted lottery based on being worst team in NHL in 2003-04.

I thought there's be a chance they make a move for suter, despite the rumblings of him not wanting to play in the East, for all we know he could have been trying to drive his price up to Eastern conference teams. WIth this recent market surge for Dmen (thank you calgary!) not sure how likely but d lineup you have there is pretty good.

His hit was 8.7. His new hit reportedly close to 9. This is great news for the pens and their fans make no mistake about it.

Next summer, both Malkin and Letang come up for extensions before going into the final year of their respective contracts. Even if Malkin accepts the same mini-bump in his cap hit up to $9.0 million, Letang's cap hit is probably going to double from $3.5M to $7M.

Yup. Indeed. NHL may be headed down that road again. I don't think the League would survive if there is another work stoppage.

How can they afford Parise, or Suter at 7m, with those two contract issues on the horizon? That would be 32 million on 4 players. Nearly half the cap.

Would you agree Letang is probably the odd man out based on the team structure and the prospects coming up? As much as it would suck to lose such a stud I just don't see how we keep him.

Bill,
What do you see the team doing with Marc Andre Bourdon?
Keep both him and Lilja as the #7 and 8 guys?

I guess with the inevitable injuries MAB would likely get plenty of ice time filling in.

I'm assuming Carle is re signed which is not 100% guaranteed at this point.

problem i have with voracek bill is that he couldnt score in a vietnamese whore house. My opinion is that you need a guys who can put the puck in the net(sniper). I also dont think hartnel is that guy.
- Philly1980

FWIW - Voraceck was tied with Matt Read for highest number of goals (1.17) scored per 60 even strength minutes of icetime he got last season. Not saying he's a puresniper or would make an ideal linemate for G, but his goal scoring ability seems to be underrated.

I think he'll get a lofty extension from the Pens.

After Giroux, Voracek is the second best skater on the team.
His puck possession skills are invaluable, and he showed a real desire to be a good defensive forward last year. I hate the idea of trading him, he is a huge part of their team imo.

He couldn't score in a whorehouse! When he shoots baby bunnies get disemboweled by Angels!

We'll see. If we sign a Parise/Suter I think that will tell the story. At least we have a couple more years with him regardless.

I'd find a way to keep Letang.
I don't know much about the prospects coming up, but he seems like a key player for you guys.

I think Voracek is a better skater than Giroux. But that doesn't really change your overall point.

Right now, they're pretty much locked into carrying 8 D (assuming Carle re-signs and no other trades).

Bourdon is no longer waiver exempt, at there is a major risk he'd be claimed if waived to send to AHL. Even if he somehow made it through, he'd be confined to AHL for the entire year because there is virtually zero chance he'd make it through recall waivers at half price.

Lilja is on an over-35 contract, so the Flyers are basically stuck with him unless they can find a team that wants a discount veteran 7th D with an expiring contract.

14 million in cap space after the Crosby extension, anything is possible.
