Good, I'm expanding your vocabulary.

Reading will do that - even online.

But it's actually to disparage or attack the character of something.

Colorado declined to invest 2M in him.

I understand but if we could sign him for cheap he could be a steal if he stays healthy

I have a feeling that next yer Weber will want to sign a deal with Vancouver, his home town team, makes it even more likely with Edler leaving too maybe

He could be. But the fact that Colorado walked way from him, and the injury issues. Big red flags for me.

Gotta say I trust Homer too. If he can do what he did last year and stay competitive I believe in him. I would just feel way more comfortable saving money for G, coots, and Schenn. I want those three here for the rest of their careers
- shifty28

I don't think you'll have to worry about G & Coots remaining Flyers. Schenn, with his brother now a Flyer, is probably going to be here awhile, too.

Just my $.02. YMMV.

Matty Carle or Kim Johnsson in his prime
(pretty comparable point totals, matty with one more year hovering around the 40pt mark than kimmy tho)

gun to your head

Johnsson. He had a little more grit/tenacity/jam that made him more effective defensively (a la Timonen). He seemed to carry the puck up ice more readily than Carle and had a better shot and pp presence.

Carle was 25th in the league in turnovers behind John Carlson, PK Subban, Erik Karlsson, Dion Phanuef, Brett Burns, Keith Yandle, Zdeno Chara, Dennis Wideman, Dan Boyle, Filip Kuba, Drew Doughty, Mark Streit, Dan Hamhuis, Dan Girardi, Jay Bouwmeester, Luke Schenn, Brent Seabrooke, Dustin Byfuglien. Among others.
- MBFlyerfan

Lots of those players actually skate the puck up and carry into the zone with aplomb or come past red and shoot it in. Carle rarely does this. He much prefers to make d to d, outlet or stretch passes from the defensive zone, where turnovers are more dangerous. I'd be curious to see where Carle ranks in defensive zone turnovers.

Am I thinking two steps ahead when I ask who are we going to trade to get Weber at the deadline?

Wouldn't it make more sense to sign Carle now and then deal one of Carle, Mez, Grossmann, Schenn, or Coburn as part of that trade?

I'm leery of signing Doan for 4 years also. He is the prototypical power forward in the LeClair mode. Eventually those type of players' bodies just give out. I like everything about Doan, but the high mileage is a great concern. I would rather bring back Jagr for one year then signing Doan for four.

Peter Mueller is a guy I would consider. His injury history is a concern, but you have to figure he won't command a high salary and the guy is really talented if he is healthy. I have to figure he'll get below $2 million dollars, I do like him at one year more then a 41 year old Jagr.

- ravishingone

I'm sure I'm the only person who feels this way but I never felt John LeClair was really that bad when he was on his way out of the league. Clearly he wasn't the shining star that he once was but I more so believe that he was forced out because the New NHL was more so wanted to be a young man's game, and it is. Obviously the age and the injuries were gaining on him but take a look at his 5 past seasons. His second last he scores 22 goals. His third last 23 goals. It's hard to come by players who can score 20 in this league these days and he was doing it on a bad back.

I Love John LeClair and I choose to believe he was great right to the bitter end.

Incorrect, didn't you read the blog?

If Flyers are $4.4 million under the cap when the season starts. They have (Pronger's $4.9 million-$4.4 million) after adding back in Pronger's LTIR. As I said, you can do it, but you have no cap space to make moves at the deadline. Just a question, what did you trade Bourdon for?

I have similiar "man crush" for LeClair, and as mentioned earlier if Doan wasn't signing a 35+ contract, I would have no problem signing him. My problem lies in giving Doan 4 years somewhere north of $4million when in two years I believe guys like G, Coots, Schenn, Simmnds, and Read will probably be getting
significant raises.

To your point, a younger, healthier LeClair was a 50 and 40 goal scorer. A younger Doan was a two time 30 goal scorer, if age starts creeping up, I'm not sure it is prudent to have a winger being paid $4-$5 million to chip in 15 goals for multiple years. Granted, LeClair played with Big E, Doan never played with any center that good. I would rather sign Jagr for one year, then Doan for more then two years.

It's tough for me to listen to John LeClair being compared to any other Power Forward. To me, he was the best at this position. Even better then Cam Neely but that's just me.

Your preaching to the choir. I purchased LeClair's authentic CCM Boston All-Star jersey. I was sitting in Maple Leaf Garden when LeClair scored his 40th goal for the Flyers for the first time. Hextall threw a 4-0 shutout, go figure. With that being said, those type of forwards take a real beating because they play what LeClair called "a man's game". Hard in the corners and getting to the front of the net.
