Matty Carle or Kim Johnsson in his prime
(pretty comparable point totals, matty with one more year hovering around the 40pt mark than kimmy tho)

Sign Voracek for $3. Jagr or comparable Winger for $3. Suter for $7.5. Find backup goalie for 800K and Trade Meszaros for the most picks you can get. What kind of picks could you get for Meszaros a 1 and 4? I think B. Schenn and Wellwood will really contribut more this season. You'll have about $4.9 million between pronger LTIR and the 500k-1Mg cap space for a move at the deadline and extra picks to get a better chip.

Feasible?

Suter isn't going to Philly.

Carle logged 103 more minutes of ice time than the next closest Flyers this past season. That is almost two full games.

Detroit is going to get a d-man in free agency, it is just a matter of who- Suter or Carle? They're have the money and cap space, I think the Wings control a lot in what is going to happen July 1st.

Carle was 25th in the league in turnovers behind John Carlson, PK Subban, Erik Karlsson, Dion Phanuef, Brett Burns, Keith Yandle, Zdeno Chara, Dennis Wideman, Dan Boyle, Filip Kuba, Drew Doughty, Mark Streit, Dan Hamhuis, Dan Girardi, Jay Bouwmeester, Luke Schenn, Brent Seabrooke, Dustin Byfuglien. Among others.

Detroit has Kronwall, Ericsson (whose been disappointing), and Ian White as the only blueliners with a decent amount of experience on the roster. I would assume they would pursue Suter hard, but Carle certainly is in the mold of previous d-men in the past for the Wings - more positionally sound then physical.

LeBrun wrote on TSN that he believes both Carle and Garrison are looking for $5M deals.

"Once you get beyond Ryan Suter and Justin Schultz, who are the most sought-after unrestricted free agent defencemen?

Pierre LeBrun: Matt Carle and Jason Garrison, in that order. Carle has flown under the radar because people in Philadelphia keep expecting he's going to re-sign. The dialogue continues with the Flyers but I think he's going to market. I think he's trying to command $5 million a year and he might get it on the open market. I think it's the same thing for Garrison, with $5 million being a key figure for him. He's not close to re-signing with the Florida Panthers, who could also trade his rights before July 1 if they can't get a deal done."

Might be best to go after Salvador for this season. Wait until next offseason for Weber, Enstrom or Edler.

stats don't even tell half the story in sports. Carle is a decent player, absolutely. However I, personally, would not give him more than 4-4.25 million. His turnovers were the type of turnovers you cannot have...ones that turn into goals. He sucked at clearing the zone. He is soft, his high assist aren't from playmaking ability, almost always secondary assists. Horrible shot. Yet despite all of my negative comments I would give him 4 million, maybe I should be an arbitration lawyer

help me out here. The Flyers D was such a mash unit last year with all the injuries, Here's how I see the Dlines with and without Carle at this point. Input welcome.

1. Timo/Coburn
2. Meszaros/Grossman
3. Bourdon/Schenn

with Carle:

1. timo/Coburn
2. Meszaros/Grossman
3. Carle/Schenn

Can't pony up $32.5 on the blue line so there's no way they can sign Carle unless they have a deal for someone else.

If Carle is going to walk it would be. But it's fantasy.
