Bill said earlier in the thread Nittymaki is likely to miss the season due to hip surgery I believe. I don't want any of these ex-Flyers retreads.
- PLindbergh31

Thats unfortunate.

Boucher is also supposed to miss 4-6 months.

Just for the poops and giggles I would have been willing to take a chance on any of the Ex goaltenders. Being Boucher, Niity or Esche. Before the hope was they would be #1 guys. However as back-ups I'd have no issue.

Biron I think will be too expensive and Clemmenson (sp?) imo stays in Florida.

I ask because I think they need to bring in a guy who can play top 4 minutes.

If they lose Carle that is. I am not saying that is where Garrison would be slotted usually but if injuries arise.

By physical I mean is he able to stand up guys at the blueline or be a punishing force. Does he also do so consistently?

- flyer_nutter

I wouldn't say he's a punishing force on the whole as Schenn is. I would say he is less physical then Coburn, Grossmann, or Meszaros. But far more physical then Carle or Timonen. So in the middle. The danger is that he had a very good offensive year. I think his defense is solid regardless. The question is that with only really putting up good offensive numbers for one Season, can he repeat that.

Anaheim may lose out to another team. If they have the space to sign him now and avoid even competing with another team why not do it? Plus they get rid of Ryan and get back Voracek also. They get a two for one deal.
- stveshdy

Because they could get a better deal with players that are already signed, and use Free Agency to go after a defenseman. Think about what UFA rights are traded for. What did Calgary give up for Wideman's rights. Who is on par with Carle. A 26 year old career AHLer and a 5th round pick.

I believe Clemmensen is good enough to challenge to be a starting goaltender somewhere. I think he's a solid goaltender, in fact if he signed in Philly and split the 82 games with Bryzgalov, I'm not sure he wouldn't outplay Bryzgalov.

I think you can get Biron for the same as what he earned last Season. Around 850K.

Have to wait until the entire off season is done. If Carle bolts you're down Carle, bob and JVR while up Schenn and 3 picks with $6 extra million to use. Long way to go.

Sunday will paint a picture of what these team will be.

Not sure of Biron's mindset. He obviously won't start more than 12-15 games barring injury if he stays in NY, he might believe he actually can outplay Bryzgalov if he signs in Philadelphia. Which wouldn't be impossible.

Maybe the Flyers up the offer with a 1st round pick. I hear what your saying I'm just trying to come up with something.

The most realistic option is if Carle walks add Garrison, Salvador, etc.

I'm personally not expecting the backup, whoever it is, to outplay Bryzgalov. And I don't think Biron would be coming here expecting to do so. If he comes here, he knows he's the backup.

Just curious.

EVen though I do like my D-men physical, the Flyers will really need a guy who can transition the puck, if Carle leaves.

Someone who can play on the PP and shoot would also be ideal but I dont know if that would be available.

I'd love Streit but dont know what it would cost to obtain him.

Ive seen him play.

Denis Gauthier was also a physical guy but got himself out of position too often. Subban does the same.

I've seen Schenn and he needs to pick his spots better.

Absolutely. Getting out of Toronto is the best thing for him. Hes 22 years old so he will make mistakes but he will get better. Crazy to think we have a young player like Schenn on our backline for once.

My big issue is this.

He can possibly provide it. For a team like Florida. However can he do the same against top teams in the playoffs?

Who knows (frank).

I am going camping for this weekend tommorow. Back sunday night. Wont have this poop on my mind hopefully.

Its just a feeling but IF Carle walks, I see the Flyers going with one of Bourdon, Gusty, Manning etc as the 6th guy and they use that money to go out and pursue some forwards. A defensive specialist and a scoring winger. Its just a hunch, but I dont think they want to get in to a bidding war for defensemen that will end up getting way more than they are worth.

Gauthier was a veteran. Subban and Schenn are kids. Schenn is 22. There is going to be growing pains.

I'd rather get into a bidding war for a defenseman this time next year.

Id be fine with that. They could enter the Guastad race. Perhaps him and Prust.

I like Dom Moore, but if you can get Gaustad you do that.

I like his upside.

Would have loved to see him learn from a guy like Pronger even if it was for just a season.
