Giroux scored 93 points last Season. Seems like his potential is doing just fine. Jagr held onto the puck quite a bit last Season.

True but Voracek is no Jagr.My amateur opinion is that it would not mesh well.

Since it hasn't hurt our scoring, why would it bother you so much how much they spend on their "third pair"? At the end of last season i found myself wishing they had spent more on defense.

I love how this is becoming the flavor of the week issue.

They spend the most out of any team in the nhl on defense....its laughable.

The former notoriously suffered a back injury while eating a stack of pancakes.

Giroux increased his shot output by almost 50% over the previous season... he seems to have taken the "shoot more" advice to heart. Jake has a pretty good shot... he just need to get the confidence to use it more. He easily has the talent turn some heads like Milan Mihalek did this past season w/ his 35-goal explosion.

I want to maximize giroux's potential, not stick him with a guy that likes to rag the puck more than he does.

I think this is coming down to the same discussions we all had a few years ago when JVR was coming into the line-up. At that point, with the cap and his lower cap hit, we NEEDED him to make the line-up to make other things work and he had to make a contribution.
this year, at least to me, we need that same thing from one of the young D men and then either not resign Carle or resign him (5.5 now? ugh) and move Mez. This is assuming of course that we want a Shane Doan instead.

If it was me, I would let Jagr walk and keep one of Mez or Carle. try to land doan for 3 @5M, sign Marty for the back up, and have MAB in the line-up. I think the could do that and make it fit in the offseason and then have Pronger's LTIR money as the cushion once the season starts, or at least most of it.
Financially, that would put them in a good position to pick up a D man via trade if need be.
the only issue would be Kimo being out early. would be some pains there for a while, but if the team plays better as a whole defensive unit, they could survive it.

Maybe someone here knows before I go off and do the research, but does anyone know who spends the most on forwards in the league? And would you consider that laughable?

Giroux tries to learn the virtue of selfishness (February 04, 2012)

"I know I've got to shoot more. I've been talking to the coaches about it, and all my teammates tell me to shoot more and be a little bit more selfish," Giroux said after Friday's practice in Voorhees. "I'm trying to shoot, but at the same time, I know if I make the pass to those guys, it's going to be in the back of the net."

Problem is hes being finicky with his contract and wants to sign like he has already done that. if he signs for 3.5-4 than id rather have Ryan. I know he will get to the 35 goal mark.

still baffled by the flyers draft picks... I know they have had good luck with their first selections but why does this organization have a fear of drafting D men and goalies? I would try to hire some of Nashville's scouts if I was Homer.

"Apparently it's one of those mysterious things, where you can throw it [back] out [from] sneezing," the L.A. Kings Insider reported Penner saying.

"I just leaned over to dip into some delicious pancakes that my wife made. It's just like it [the pain] wraps around you and squeezes. So it was disappointing. Hopefully it's just an isolated incident, and not something that's going to become chronic."

Okay, that's a funny story. "Delicious pancakes" makes it.

And now I get it. I have a similar wonky back where I can unexpectedly cause myself great pain. I last did it a few months ago bending over to tie my shoe.

I have a wonky back too. The good news is i just have to watch hockey and drink beer, he has to actually play.

He started a charity called "Penner Cakes". So at least he has fun with it and something good came out of it. Either way I would have said I fell or something but to each their own.
