The kid and his agent are not talking trash or giving interviews. He's politely telling teams he won't sign with them asap so they can carry on making other plans.

He says he wants to play in a hockey market and play top 4 minutes. Sure, he's got some stones to do what he's doing. But that's the kind of guy I want on my team. If he can actually play that is. And all signs point to him being a player.

We don't have Carle right now. I know he wants to stay and even be willing to take alittle less than market value (says some reports) but I can't believe he would be willing to leave that much on the table after the Wideman deal. If he decides to that would be great for the Flyers.

I wasn't happy with the JVR deal at first, but I am getting really excited to watch L Schenn play.

I don't know about "ironclad" as much as a mutual "understanding". Do you have a link that shows the ironclad comment? Plenty of teams need a guy that can put up some points in their top 4. Plenty. Otherwise nobody would be giving this kid the time of day. He's 21, not 18 or 19 too. May not seem like a lot, but I'm sure those extra 2 years in college didn't hurt his overall maturity, despite the fact many think he is being immature in this process.

I still can't believe that Bob got the Flyers three picks. Thats a great move by the Flyers. (2nd rounder) That was big.

He's got multiple bonuses built into his contract. That's really why he's looking for some assurance of top 4 minutes. He doesn't want to get jacked out of a legitimate shot at the bonus money. But like you said, it's all a moot point and he'll be the next Stephan Whatshisface if he can't back any of this up.

My only reservation, if I'm one of the teams he is talking with, is what happens if they make those promises and he struggles. What will his reaction be if his time is reduced or if he even (heaven forbid) is sent to the AHL to get seasoning, if they feel like he will and can handle that if it happens. Go for it.

His choice to play in college up to free agency was not without risk. He could have been injured or ill and have severely reduced or zeroed out his value. And I agree that he is at least being honest up front about who he's willing to talk with, so the others don't waste time, energy, and travel dollars.

I don't believe it can be codified in the contract. There is a standard agreement and the options in the terms are pretty limited. Whatever promises that are made will not be binding. He can have a one-way deal. But that just means that if he is sent to the AHL, he will be paid his full NHL salary. It does not control whether he can be sent down.

But you can have 1-way (in the sense that you are guaranteed the same salary dollars in the NHL or AHL--obviously you don't have much likelihood of reaching bonuses if you are in the AHL part of the year) in the Entry Level contract. It controls what you are paid, but it does not limit movement.

The maximum salary for an AHL player on a Entry Level deal is 70,000 I believe. Schultz NHL salary is going to be the maximum base salary which is over 900,000. It's not semantics. It's facts. All Entry Level deals are two way.

It's impossible for his AHL salary to be equal to his NHL salary, on an Entry Level deal. Due to the NHL minimum salaries, and the AHL maximum salary for a player on an Entry Level deal.

Maximum AHL salary for a player on an EL deal in 2012 is 70,000

Minimum base NHL salary for any SPC, including Entry Level in 2012 is $525,000
